What happened to him? I know he isn't hurt, but he has been almost non existent in his senior year. I also see less talk about him on here. Didn't have a single game with more than 4 receptions this season. At times you could tell he was frustrated. Not Dez Bryant throw a fit type of frustration, but he appeared to want to have a more active role his senior season.

Everyone's thoughts.

If you don't get open you don't get the ball. And not a ton of opportunity in a run first offense with a passing game predicated on spreading the ball around.

To be honest the fact we have gotten such good production from our final class of FCS recruits speaks so well of all the work they've put in. Talent wise the other classes have more ceiling, but these guys always got the nod time and again.

Really don't throw it a ton anymore which is part of the problem. The other part is that he does not get good separation. However, that has not stopped him from being an incredible gunner on Special Teams.

It does and it doesn't seem that long ago that the Samford PBP guy insisted on calling him Mala-key.

None of our WRs had a huge year, and that is due to the success of our run game.
Meadors, McGuire, Jones etc, were pretty quiet compared to last year. Don't know for sure, but I would imagine Sims was the most targeted, and a TE maybe second most.
I will miss seeing Malachi on the field. He is always playing hard, great leader and seem like a overall great guy. Hope he get a chance to land somewhere in the NFL.

I don't agree that Jones was not getting open. I forgot which game it was, GaSo maybe, he had a huge mismatch on the corner covering him. Looked like he had a foot on the guy. I told my wife they will take advantage of that. Never did... I think at different times of the year Lamb was fixated on one receiver. McElfresh was his favorite whether by design or just the guy he looked for.

We also didn't play from behind many games. With such huge leads and obviously the success of our run game the Need to throw was not there as much as years past, thankfully. That plays a large role in the number of attempts and opportunities for Malachi.

Let me preface by saying he's always been a classy player, never displayed attitude issues, or anything like that...but, I've never been overly impressed with Malachi. He's a strong #2 receiver at best. He's not THAT big, not THAT fast, many times he gets the ball he ducks out of bounds instead of fighting for the extra yards, and until this year on special teams I've never watched him play with much fire. To me his career kinda feels like Devan Moore - lot of potential but never did "it" for me.

Malachi is very good but certainly not elite at our level and as much as I support him and the team I won't sanctify someone just because they're a senior. Just my observation.

This App team has a lot of subtle similarities the Panthers. Strong defense, really good run game, decent but not great receivers. I am by no means directly comparing the two. Both teams are run first oriented. Other than Greg Olsen no Panther receiver will have big numbers this season. Many of us have pointed out that this App team doesn't seem to run certain routes with receivers. Not alot of slants off the line (5 yard variety) other than to McElfresh. I have noticed the same thing with Malachi, catch and get out of bounds. For the next few years receivers better be content with only a few looks every game. With our stable of backs I see no reason to have TL air it out 30 times a game. Malachi has been a beast on kick coverage. If the NFL is on his radar guys routinely made squads with stellar special teams play.

We also have to look at how much Lamb spread the ball out. There was never one WR a defense could key on. If they did, Lamb made them pay.

One thing that seems to be going unnoticed on here is Malachi is a tremendous down field blocker -- which is essential for our offense to be effective. He may not be the biggest or fastest, but he is certainly one of the strongest in the WR corps and plays with heart and passion.

I'm a Malachi fan, have been since he's been here. We'll miss him next year.

Malachi is OPEN ...... he has been all year but you have to trust he will bring the ball down.
TL has to throw it high because he doesn't create space....but he is open.
I think TL throws to him on certain plays and TL doesn't like to throw to people who have not separated because he fears interceptions.
Its easier to throw to smaller receivers who separate.

Second on the team in receptions and receiving yards. We were 91st nationally in passing offense and spread the ball around, so just not a ton of numbers to be had. But we were 5th nationally in passing efficiency.

Malachi's numbers were down this year and the reasons have all been listed in this thread. I have a tremendous respect for his work ethic and think he has been a great player for App. He has made cluth catches on several occassions, including times when he was in traffic. Going out of bounds after a catch isn't necessarily a bad thing and depending on the situation, can be exactly what he's coached to do. As much as I love and respect that effort for "extra yards", it is also a big contributor to fumbles by both RBs and WRs.

I think we have some young talent waiting in the wings and we will probably be just fine next year, but Malachi has done everything expected of a receiver in our program.

I look at Malachi much like Cadet. Neither had over the top numbers while at App, but they have been willing to do whatever is asked of them. I think he could have a good career as a utility player in the NFL if given the chance.

Malachi is probably my favorite player on the team. I was hoping he'd have a breakout year this year, but our offense just isn't built to get WR's big #s on the stat sheet.

It's been fun watching him on special teams this year as you can tell he takes pride in everything he does on the field.

I think someone will give him a shot as an UDFA at the next level and will hope for the best.

This is what makes Malachi and Montez effective in App's scheme. This offense needs above average blocking on the outside to make it successful.
