MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Two improbable fourth-quarter comebacks and a game-winning kick later, Appalachian State finished one of the more memorable seasons in school history.
The Mountaineers overcame a 17-point deficit then drove 73 yards to set up Zach Matics’ 23-yard field goal for a 31-29 victory over Ohio in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl on Saturday night.
“I’ve been a part of football for a long, long time; I’ve never been a part of a game like this,” coach Scott Satterfield of App State said.
Despite Matics missing two field goals in the first quarter, Satterfield had no reservations putting the game on the leg of his first-team All-Sun Belt kicker.
“I knew Zach Matics would make it.
