Redshirts?
Just curious if anyone knows who on the team is eligible for redshirt this year? Would Letman and Reed be eligible since they are Junior College transfers? I don't recall them getting any playing time this year.

Re: Redshirts?
I believe Reed played early on and got injured, but don't know if he is eligible for a redshirt

Re: Redshirts?
Reed played too many games
Would Sims be a possible medical RS?
Josh Thomas and Tae Hayes are the only true freshmen I can recall playing. Everyone else likely got a RS

Re: Redshirts?
Letman also got that offense contribution award a couple of weeks back at the sports banquet. Must have shown well on the scout team.
Could have 4 6'2+ game changers on the outside next year in Meadors, letman, Adams and Armstrong.

Re: Redshirts?
I believe Flory played some games including bowl game. I would assume he is not eligible for RS.

Re: Redshirts?
Sims played in four games, which to my understanding is just above the cutoff for a medical redshirt (30% of games). But I've read App will apply for one for him anyway.
I believe this is the breakdown:
Played
Josh Thomas
Vic Johnson
Dezmin Reed
Tae Hayes
Mondo Williams
Anthony Flory
Redshirted (12)
Zi Letman
Mock Adams
Desmond Franklin
Alex Taylor
Jake Easter
Devin Papenheim
Ed Davis
Collin Reed
Brody Barrett
Bo Alexander
Michael Rubino
Chris Favoroso
Unsure
Akeem Davis (pretty sure he played at least against Howard, but didn't hear anything about him after early season and wasn't dressed out recently; wasn't listed on injury reports)
Tee Sims (see above)

Re: Redshirts?
Just looking at the 2015 Main page these are the ones who either took the complete RS year or could/will try for medicals.
ATH Jake Easter (6′ 2″ 185) of Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC (early camp injury)
WR Zireycus Letman (6′ 3″ 195) of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA (showing he played at UL-M but I don't believe that's correct. Plan was to shirt him so I think it's a misprint)
WR Markeyvious Adams (6’ 4” 187) of Greenwood High School in Greenwood, SC
TE Collin Reed (6′ 3″ 205) of Boiling Springs High School in Boiling Springs, SC
OL Alex Taylor (6′ 8″ 290) of Berkeley Senior High School in Moncks Corner, SC
OL Bo Alexander (6′ 5″ 285) of Dr Phillips High School in Winter Springs, FL
DT/NG Brody Barrett (6′ 4″ 312) of JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA
LB Edward Davis (6′ 0″ 225) of Farmville Central High School in Farmville, NC
OLB/DE Chris Favoroso (6′ 3″ 240) of Jensen Beach High School in Jensen Beach, FL
DE Devin Papenheim (6′ 6″ 225) of South Sumter High School in Bushnell, FL
DB/ATH Desmond Franklin (6′ 1″ 190) of Citrus High School in Inverness, FL
K/P Michael Rubino (6′ 3″ 190) of Middle Creek High School in Apex, NC
DE Antonius Sims (6′ 3″ 245) of Eastside High School in Covington, GA/Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA (injured right near the 30% mark. Possible medical)
Two other possibles:
WR Jaquil Capel (5′ 11″ 190) of West Montgomery High School in Mount Gilead, NC (injured in 3rd game. Should get medical)
LB/DB Rashaad Townes (6-2, 200) of Howard High School in Macon, GA (won Outstanding Defensive Contributor Award. Played as a Freshman and Sophomore but did not play any games this year. Had a shirt so it's possible he used his to heal from the shoulder injuries he's had. One to watch for next year).

Re: Redshirts?
Sorry East. Was doing the same as you apparently. Only adds to your list were Townes and Capel, due to reasons posted. And like you not sure about Akeem Davis. Stats show he played versus Howard and Clemson (no stats), then nothing until Idaho. Like with Letman (UL-M) it could be a mistake since no stats were shown for the Idaho game either. And we are closer to the 30% mark than we were on Sims given we played 13 games. Puts it right on the mark.

Yeah, I was only thinking of first-year players, but good to include the others too.firemoose wrote:Sorry East. Was doing the same as you apparently. Problem with Capel is that he already redshirted, and to get a medical redshirt/6th year, you have to show that BOTH redshirt years were due to injury. But he also has a unique set of circumstances - sat one year while waiting for UNCC to start playing, then sat a second due to transfer rules. So maybe they could get an exception for him? No clue how that might play out.
With Sims, I think (but am not sure) that the 30% mark does not include postseason games. And even with the 13th game, he's close to - but still over - 30%. So we'd basically be asking the NCAA to make an exception. I wonder if part of the case might be that (IIRC) he was injured very early in the fourth game.

Re: Redshirts?
Agree on Capel. The first year in Charlotte is something unusual. Guess we'll see. And was thinking the same on Sims. And he didn't play very many snaps in the first two games. Was just starting to get more reps when he got hurt.
Love the double standard from the NCAA. It wouldn't happen often but if you had a player who hadn't played in a game all season but you had to yank the RS in the bowl game (or conference championship game), I haven't read anything that said the NCAA would't count it. Need to do some research.

Re: Redshirts?
I think conference championship games are considered postseason, FWIW. When Ohio State, Penn State and UNC were on postseason bans a few years back, they all were ineligible for their conference title games.

Re: Redshirts?
Yep. Just thought of that and was editing the post. Still need to check what pulling the shirt in either would do.
