We have two alums that cover us (and take plenty of opportunity to dog the league on my messageboard) that are very anti-Sun Belt ... fortunately they are writing in very small town (and time) papers that see little circulation.
Maybe he's just serving up some red meat to his readership, but still ....

I doubt many people read his stuff outside of Augusta County and Staunton.
Sorry to see that he is an App State grad. But we all have alums who can't see straight. The folks up the valley really do think that JMU is more than it is.

Hey now...I'm from and currently live in the Shenandoah Valley. We don't all like JMU. Black and Gold all day every day. JMU has many attractive co-eds. That's about all they have to offer. Going to Harrisonburg when JMU is not in session, is not as appealing.hapapp wrote:I doubt many people read his stuff outside of Augusta County and Staunton.

That almost makes me hope Withers tears it up at Tx St, moves on to a big P5 job and wins big there too, just so in a few years someone can dig this column up and make this dude the laughingstock of the Internet like that guy who wrote the "Cam Newton is the worst draft pick ever" column.

I taught many a great student who went to JMU. It is a fine school no doubt. But I believe they have a perception of themselves that doesn't match reality. Those folks have no conception of Texas State as an institution or athletic program./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Hey now...I'm from and currently live in the Shenandoah Valley. We don't all like JMU. He's obviously preaching to the choir. JMU and it's alumni are incredibly insecure and defensive. Most of them are still smarting over not getting into UVA. They want to believe they are special in all the land.
It would make me happy to never see JMU discussed in Yosef's Cabin again.

He won't win in San Marcos, they are a nice school but there is too many FCS teams in the state of Texas to compete for quality talent. Wonder why the OC at TCU and Houston turned them down?
However make the road trip to San Marcos it will be fun.

I can not believe this guy gets paid to write about sports. His opinion is devoid of any thought. Two things he missed Off the top of my head:
1) would you not accept a job that paid nearly 2x as much as the one you currently hold?
2) how many coaches from the CAA have been offered head coaching positions in the SEC in the last 7 years?
Oh and 3: why don't you go back to covering high school j.v. VB games because you don't seem to know anything about college football!

He claims the NOLA Bowl "only drew 33,000". When was the last time a non-HBCU non-Harvard vs Yale game in FCS drew 33,000 at home? Marshall in 1996?

The Yale Bowl holds 61,446 and Harvard Stadium holds 30,323 (current)
57,166 (maximum). Joan Edwards Stadium, Marshall, holds 38,227 (2013–present)

I believe this is the guy who was station mgr at WASU in my time early 90's after Yarbro. Statements are not surprising, would not call him very sports minded.

Actually I was WASU station manager in 1989-90. Yarbro was the sports director second semester. I would also not call myself very sports minded.App91 wrote:I believe this is the guy who was station mgr at WASU in my time early 90's after Yarbro. That is a horribly written article if it was intended to be news. If it was meant to be an opinion piece, then they should have identified it as such. That was just pathetic.

Agree 100%. It amazes me how much opinion is now presented as 'news'.appst89 wrote:That is a horribly written article if it was intended to be news. If it was meant to be an opinion piece, then they should have identified it as such. That was just pathetic.

Oh man. Which guy are you asking if we claim? The ASU grad and hack news columnist who's crapping all over his alma mater's conference, or the ASU grad and football coach who has crapped all over his alma mater?

Actually that was a surprise. I read all the comments and then read the article. I think we are a little sensitive.
