2016 Spring Football Prospectus

Unread post by firemoose » Thu Mar 24, 2016 5:51 pm

App has posted the Spring prospectus, including the depth chart, coming out of spring ball. It's a .PDF file so some may not be able to read it but I haven't had time to convert and post it yet. Too much going on. Will try and do it later if someone doesn't get to it first.

Time for discussion:

Depth chart looks pretty solid to me . Sims should take th other top DE spot once back fully. Which by the way he seems to have put on more muscle. Also look to see papemheims name come into play. I'm also excited about Godwin.

We look to have a pretty strong team with a lot of potential upside in the line, especially if TEC can hold down center. I've heard he's strong as an Oxe.

Didn't Taylor "pooch" kick last year?

Encouraging to see TEC at 1st string. Wish Vic Johnson were there as well, but maybe that will happen in the fall. Most of the rest is about as expected. While I think there's about as much chance of Gibbs coming off the bench as me doing so, I assume the "or" designation is a good sign for Pinckney's recovery.

We are smallish at DE, and getting "old" at NT, I hope we have a huge recruiting year at DL this year.

Our secondary is becoming a strength.

Biggest concerns for 2016 are C, DE, and WR experience, although I believe we could be stronger at WR by mid-season than we were in 2015.

Saw TEC at a hockey game. I didn't know who he was but saw he was wearing an App shirt and had a lanyard from the bowl game hanging out of his pocket. Talked to him a little bit. He told me was going to be the starting center next season. Seems like a nice guy. Is this the most senior laden team we have had in a long time?

Is it odd that Critcher is not listed at the starting PK to a Freshman?

No. Rubino was one of the highest rated kickers coming out of HS. Critcher having to handle all kicking responsibilities a couple years ago was odd.

Had Rubino & Matics been in the same class last year, it's possibly Rubino would have won the job. Matics wins by seniority, so Rubino could be redshirted, and the rest is history.

I'll defer to you on that because you are significantly closer to the program than I am but watching them in warm-up Matics seemed to have the stronger leg. Regardless, whether he won the job as a result of seniority, it's hard to imagine anyone could have done better than Matics did this past season.

reminds me of how Ingle Martin (remember him from another team?) pulled double duty on occasions (punter and QB).

I'd like to see a punt pass and kick contest between our QB and P. Bentlee's got a pretty good arm.

Martin was really good!!! - so glad he got stripped late in that 2005 semifinal game because he had a receiver wide open - to me, not a life-long APP fan, that might have been the most important game ever played in Boone as it started APP on its way ---
I think Martin was drafted in maybe the 4th round by the Packers? - He was a great punter as well ---

I think a lot of that competition had to do with what occurred during fall camp. Matics certainly showed he had the leg this past season.
