Did anybody go? Would somebody like to give a report?

I was surprised at how paltry the turn-out was. Well over half of the attendees were Athletic Dept Admin or staff. The location was great (rotunda area of the HOF, surrounded by dozens of stock cars from every era). Gillin and his associates gave a good intro speech about aggressively pursuing 7500 season ticket holders for this season (said we had 4400 or so last year plus mini-packages). Mentioned that we really need to get alumni in Charlotte to be actively engaged and supporting the university. Speeches from the coaches were good and there was also a short video showing the athlete experience at App. The hors d'oeuvres were excellent.

I had to miss. Broke my leg last week. I hate I missed out, it is directly behind my office

I dont think folks wanted to go downtown.........Quail Hollow was a great venue

Rekdiver , last years Yosef was at BbT ballpark and was a grand slam.....many old players, smaller venue, more excitement.......This year had many new faces in the AD and Yosef office leads to lack of connection....crowd was small and quiet this year. DG is going the right direction but it will take time to know all the new people.....there were less coaches, ex players, and excitement..

Wonder why with Beaver's connection we didnt go back to BBT?

I will not be going to the one in Greensboro. Mostly because I do not want to pay $70 for my wife and I to go for one night. However, if they want to increase engagement with alumni I think people need to start suggesting we do more with local chapters. Think about it, if you build relationships with other alarm there is a higher likelihood that you will go to games/events together. I've said this before and I'll say it again, the Piedmont chapter is missing a big opportunity.

If that's your local chapter why don't you hop in and make it better

I've sent a couple emails asking to help, but have heard nothing.

It was a good experience but the crowd seemed a little small considering the year we've had. The speakers were Brian Tracy (Director of Development), Simms McElfresh, Doug Gillin, Scott Satterfield, and John Mark Bentley. Other coaches in attendance but not speaking were Jim Fox, Sarah Strickland, and Matt Ginipro.

Gillin basically repeated his comments from his 1 year press conference by covering each of the core values and what strides were made to meet them this year. Satterfield had a slide presentation covering the success of last year and the incoming class. Both Scott and Doug spoke about the importance of grades when it comes to recruiting. Scott said the first thing they look at is the transcript and if the player doesn't show a desire to excel in the classroom then they move on right then. He said this not only points to things such as work ethic and character, but it also impacts how well players can grasp the playbook. Scott also mentioned how recruiting rankings were worthless and that our staff prides itself on player development which is the key to our success.

John Mark Bentley recapped the successful season the wrestling team had, and talked about the number of key wrestlers from the state of NC despite it not being a talent rich state for high school wrestling. McElfresh spoke about his time in Boone and thanked YC members for their support. Brian Tracy covered a few topics and encouraged everyone to spread the word so we could build our fund raising to pay for all of the scholarship needs. Gillin also mentioned this and said to fully fund scholarships for every team it would cost about $8 million!

There were other things shared in one on one talks that I won't repeat publicly, but those are the comments that make these events worth while! All in all a good event, but just wish more people would have attended.

$8M is high. Now it's possible if every student athlete on scholarship was out of state. If you include COA and a reasonable mix of in-state/out-of-state the number could be between $5-6M for 450 scholarships.

Not quite sure you have this correct, the tickets are $25.00 per ticket, I bought two and the total was $50.00 not the $70.00 you are quoting.

This has nothing to do with the local chapter other than they are the "host" and this is a small price for a wonderful evening. There are larger schools and programs in the Carolina's that charge much more.

$50 for dinner (heavy appz) and a chance to mingle with App coaches, players, and fellow alumni sounds like a heck of a deal for two people.

There is a disconnect here.

I thought it was 35, must have read it wrong.
