Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Go figure, like we needed any motivation to get ready for the game with Tennessee, I say watch Marcus Cox and wave at him as he gets to the endzone.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Misleading statistics. Our run was shut down the entire first half. Cox had a nice run to end the 1st half, however App had the ball in their own territory, with less than a minute. Safe to say Clemson was in a prevent. Second half, game was already in hand for Clemson, and they had some second stringers in by the middle of the 3rd quarter.T-Dog wrote:Rushing yards versus Clemson last year

Now I know these statistics favor the case for App with regards to Shoop's comments, however let's be fair.

Especially with our STABLE of running backs and if they stack the box, toss it up to Letman, Meadors or Adams.

This is one of those chances for us to go out and earn the respect we think we deserve. I have a lot of confidence in our backs but we need that O-Line to step up, and I believe they will and we will catch Tenn off guard a little.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Went back to look at the play-by-play and it looks like the offense was able to muster 37 yards (give or take) on the ground in the first half. This includes Cox's 25 yard run towards the end of the 1st half. The offense was able to produce 160+ yards in the 2nd half when Clemson started substituting./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Misleading statistics. Our run was shut down the entire first half. Shoop coaches an aggressive 4-3 base 1 gap defense geared more to zone coverage and on passing downs he likes to replace the "star" (hybrid LB/SS) position with a CB. When he watches film on App (especially Clemson 2015 and Michigan 2014), he should take a page from their bump n run strategy until our WR's can prove they can get off the line. I think App will have more size and athleticism overall to get off the jam compared to the past couple of years at wideout. As an opposing DC, I'd still make them prove they can get off the line clean.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Maybe, but they were probably in the prevent when they broke 50 against Miami and still managed to hold them to 53 rushing yards and 0 points./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Misleading statistics. Suffice it to say, we stacked up as well as anyone in the P5 on the ground on the best rushing D in 2015.

I'm not sure we'll be able to run it or throw it on them while the game's in doubt. Hope I'm wrong. I'm setting the bar low for this game and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Below should be a response:

You could probably apply that scenario to most of Clemson's opponents last year/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Misleading statistics. Our run was shut down the entire first half. Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Sixth best rushing YPG average in 2015 at 271.5 in all FBS. Every back returning and most of the O-Line rotation.
Regardless of whether App can run the ball on Tennessee, Satterfield will try and when asked by the Knoxville homer reporters if he'll dare try to run the ball on glorious Tennessee, he'll say App State is gonna run the ball.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
We lost an All-SBC C and LT that just signed a FA contract in the NFL. Until we solidify the center position I'm not going to claim we can run the ball on IMO a top 10 defense next year (16th last year). They gave up 13 rushing TDs playing in the SEC.
This could look more like the Clemson game than we'd like it to. I think they can be a dark horse for the SEC title and in the discussion for playoffs.
But hey they play the game on the field not on paper and I will be routing for a huge upset.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Exactly. Need to not look at last year's statistics to try and make a case for why App will run the ball well on Tennessee. What would you expect Shoop to say? That his defense will be like swiss cheese? He has confidence in his players, and many experts of the college game can agree with why he has that confidence. Tennessee has built a nice program up and it will be no easy task to knock them off of Rocky Top.Saint3333 wrote:We lost an All-SBC C and LT that just signed a FA contract in the NFL. I certainly hope that our program has gotten past the "blow the doors off the FCS program" that we fell into against the Hokies. We might not knock any P5 big boys but we now have the depth and experience to at least hang with them better than we did that uneventful day. I know that Knoxville is going to be a madhouse but we have a bunch of guys who went to Death Valley last year and should not be intimidated by the surroundings. Hope I can go.

Re: Tennessee DC " No one will run the football on us"
Yeah, show it to Cox but an equally good idea is to show it to Beau Nunn and the rest of the OL. To say no one will run on them is as big of a slap in the face to the OL as it is to the backs.WVAppsfan wrote:Go figure, like we needed any motivation to get ready for the game with Tennessee, I say watch Marcus Cox and wave at him as he gets to the endzone.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.
