The Regents set limits on the amount of money from student fees and tuition that can go toward athletic programs at the state’s public colleges and universities. The cap will be between 65 percent and 85 percent of the athletic budget at most schools, depending on each school’s athletic association.

This appears to be a direct shot at GA St.
This wouldn't impact App currently, but I could see our P5 programs passing something like this in the future.
It could impact capital expenditures however.

Re: State of Georgia college athletics
I haven't read it, but from what other people are saying about it, there seems to be more in it to control the growth of the athletics than just limits set from the amount of money from student fees and tuition. I get it their trying to make schools fiscally responsible, but lets don't kid ourselves, this is also an attempt by Georgia/GT supporters at the state level to control the future growth of both GSU and GS. The worst thing that happpend to Georgia Southern was almost beating both Georgia and GT in back to back seasons, that scared the hell out of some powerful Georgia/GT alumi, who felt it was necessary to do something about it now, before its too late. Honestly, first Virginia, now Georgia, I wonder when Chapel Hill will pull some strings and get legislation pass to control, or even stop, the athletic growth for other athletic programs in NC.

Virginia, I believe, passed a similar law which caps student subsidies at 50%.

The AJC just isn't what is used to be. I've probably clicked on a dozen internal links in the online version tonight. Well over half of them led to a completely unrelated article--or were just dead links. Sorry mess!
Anyway, try this (but remember your IP address can only access four articles per month w/o a paid subscription)...
Georgia Regents cap student funding of athletic programs
Many Georgia colleges will have to take another look at funding for their sports programs.
