New Voice of the Mountaineers! [Black & Gold Podcast]

Unread post by APPARJ » Wed May 11, 2016 9:02 pm

As most on MMB know, App State's own Adam Witten has replaced David Jackson as the new Voice of the Mountaineers!

He was gracious enough to come on the show to talk about his background and history with App State and what he's looking forward to with his new job.

Adam was eager to contribute to our show and for that we are very grateful. He's a good man and will make App State proud!

Good show guys.

Adam is a professional and will do a good job, he's more "by the book" than DJ, which isn't better or worse just different than what many of our listeners are used to. The key to a successful broadcast going forward is going to be determined by who they bring in as the color guy. IMO it will need to be someone with high energy, and hope it is someone with an App background.

Thanks for the introduction to our new PBP broadcaster. He seemed comfortable, well-spoken, and also had a sense of humor.

I would really like to see Steve Brown back since he doesn't sugar coat anything, but it sounds like the school is going a different direction all together.

Great interview. I think Adam will do a great job. Living in VA, I on occasion would listen to a Hokie game now and then and was always proud to hear App grad Adam back in the studio.

Great story about his circumstances during the Michigan win.

I agree it will be helpful to an App guy as the color man and hope they let him be honest just like Brownie.

Everyone needs to give Adam time to develop his presence in the booth and one expect him to be DJ II.

Still waiting for Big C to report back with the potential availability of Jim Bob Norman for color analyst.

It appears Jim Bob Norman will not be available. He is currently living in Nicaragua.

That's a fairly complicated and lengthy commute. Oh, well! :(
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.

There were two things that came up in the podcast that caught mr ear besides enjoying our new announcer.
First, Gillen has made his first gaffe approving our marketing campaign with a slogan " Define the Moment"
WTF is that? I bet all of us could come up with something better, in fact I think we should pool suggestions for next year. Secondly they inferred that DJ left a mess to be cleaned up...somewhat laughingly. Was there more to DJ leaving or just a stupid comment?

Maybe he is a fan of the movie Tin Cup. Roy McAvoy – played by Kevin Costner, who utters the line trying to explain why he hit a nearly impossible shot to his caddie (Romeo – played by Cheech Marin). Costner quips, It was a defining moment, and when a defining moment comes along, you either define the moment or the moment will define you.

Also, didn't DJ just sort of take his leave during the middle of basketball season? He probably did leave a bunch things undone.

I understand the thoughts that you expressed, but my point is to your last line. Today is mine and my wife Lori's 22nd wedding anniversary and I've been in the same shoes as DJ, however just a little different. I was working as a graphic designer at a Screen printing and Vinyl graphics business. I had worked there for about two years and was made a partner in it. well the two brothers and a cousin who were the majority owners sold the business. I liked the job and stayed, at that time things changed. the job started to demanded longer hours and I had to accept a pay cut they got behind in the payroll department. with me still being a partner I was asked to wait on payroll payments. this caused strife in our marriage. I would wake up in the morning and would dread going to work. Well I started looking for another job. The 70 to 80 hours had taken it's toll, I found an another job. When I turned the resignation letter and told them to keep my shares of the business, the owners called me in to discuss the reasoning of leaving. I told them that the working environment was being too stressful in my marriage and I had a another job. I told them that my new job would double my salary and could they match it. They couldn't. Life comes at you in many different ways some times you have to leave to insure a more harmonious out come for all parties involved.

I don't know if you're referring to something we said (I don't typically listen to the episodes) but if something was said about DJ leaving a mess it was 100% sarcasm. While I can't speak for Big C, in my opinion DJ has been the most productive person in that department for a long time.

If anything I was probably saying something sarcastic to have light-hearted fun because DJ listens to the show.

Again, not sure about what quote you're talking about specifically but it was almost certainly just a stupid comment. Sorry for any potential confusion or controversy!

It was something that was said so thanks for the clarification. I'm not close to info sources so when I hear something like that my eyebrows rise.

Sixtoes I ought to let your comment go but I'm not. I ased a simple question because I found it a curious comment. Obviously it DID come across that way to me and something I asked for some clarification and got some. Next time please allow someone to interpret things differently than you okay?

Rekdiver - I either missed the whole point or screwed up who i was responding to. I meant to respond to Apprj as it didn't appear to me to me to be light hearted fun when I heard it on the podcast

I enjoyed the episode, I listed to it on the way home Saturday on my motorcycle. He was very open and laid back with you all. I appreciate the work that you do for the fans.

And it's entirely possible that I need to learn to read for comprehension....... Once they got to the new VOM as WVAAPP said it was good and I'll miss DJ's raspy voice but life moves on and we continue to evolve.
