Re: Satterfield
Great read. Scott's difficult journey to head coach says a lot about his character, I think. His loyalty to the program when times were tough means a lot, and I hope the university is in a position to do right by him and his family for a long, long time.

Re: Satterfield
Those last couple of paragraphs make me wonder what it would take for him to leave. Would he leave to be an OC at a power 5 school? That offer is sure to come sooner than later. Hopefully he will see the opportunity to take his school to bigger places as challenge enough for a few more years. We better be ready to make him feel really appreciated here, if you know what I mean.

Re: Satterfield
Yes he would leave for an OC position at a P5 if it is offered. If you double or triple someone's salary it's just a done deal. Probably not just any P5, but if continues the success-he's gone.

After reading the article, I think we need to make sure Beth feels real appreciated!
She's a mountain-girl from Mitchell county who's raising her kids on the mountain. That is a positive for us as long as we make her feel appreciated too.

It's not a very common move for a HC to voluntarily give up that title to be an assistant again, especially when the destination is not the NFL. Not unheard of, but rare.

Satt can never be accused of not giving his ALL for App, amazing coach that BLEEDS black and gold.
We may not be able to keep him forever, but I'm thankful for everyday we do!

Re: Satterfield
I think we can sense a subtle change in his response to the question about his success and about offers that will almost certainly come his way in the future. He doesn't seem quite as resolute about staying and building as he was two years ago. The early success, the positive national publicity and exposure have him thinking... That's human nature, but it's also scary.
Still, going forward, every season we're fortunate to have him on our sideline is a big plus.

Re: Satterfield
Don't remember what he said back then, but I'd be surprised if it was anything more definitive. Probably just a different wording for a non-denial denial. Very rare for coaches to give a definitive "I'm never leaving" statement.asu66 wrote:I think we can sense a subtle change in his response to the question about his success and about offers that will almost certainly come his way in the future. Honestly we may as well not spend too much time parsing his words on this subject. Whatever it would take to pull him away, he'll never say it publicly ahead of time. We'll find out what it takes if and when it happens.

It's rare for a G5 head coach to accept a coordinator position at a power school? That would be considered a step up the ladder, right?

One year at Oklahoma as OC then off to Tulane as HC.

Not exactly apples to apples. The app then is not the app now.appfanz wrote:Mack Brown left App for an OC job, didn't he?

Depends on how you look at it. Bigger stage, but you're not the guy in charge anymore. You are certainly right about the pay bump, though.fjblair wrote:EastHallApp wrote:fjblair wrote:Yes he would leave for an OC position at a P5 if it is offered. Purely without looking up any numbers, I'd guess it's much more common for a P5 coordinator to take a job as a G5 HC than vice versa.

Dangle a guaranteed 20 year contract with current salary indexed for inflation (with appropriate no violation language etcetera and I'll bet he might stick around....he's mAking more now than he thought he could.

Re: Satterfield
If Satt leaves one day because he has grown our already special program into something even more special and is able to make $$ for his family, good for him. I just hope we can always find strong leaders to run this program and all of our sports for that matter. App is a special place and I love to brag about it.

Along with App growing for the better, The whole College Football landscape is not even recognizable since the early 1980s. It's a big money racket....I mean sport now. Country Club atmosphere for the P5 and those that aren't.boonetown1 wrote:Not exactly apples to apples. The app then is not the app now.appfanz wrote:Mack Brown left App for an OC job, didn't he?

Re: Satterfield
Even with his recent raise we're still near the bottom of FBS in coach pay. Holding that essentially flat for two decades would be a terrible deal for Satt or any other coach we'd want to hire.Rekdiver wrote:Dangle a guaranteed 20 year contract with current salary indexed for inflation (with appropriate no violation language etcetera and I'll bet he might stick around....he's mAking more now than he thought he could.
