This game is starting to feel like a really big deal, and not just for us!... Go get 'em boys, let's spoil their tittle party!

This is not a big deal, so Tenn cancels class that day, it's not like anything gets taught there anyway.

Sounds to me like a reasonable way to take care of traffic logistics at a good university. Nothing more nothing less.

Wonder if their professors get their panties in a wad when that happens...........

Believe we could learn something from Tennessee, the next time we have a Thursday night home game.

Growing up in Knoxville the traffic on game days is really bad. This will help a great deal with traffic flow around a campus that is already thin on parking.

What a difference... We made our players go to class last year on the day of the A-st game. Game day routine was totally trashed by the admins decision. All because of the pressure from the academians. We were playing for a conference championship, and we had to bow to the nerds that protested in the parking lot.

Yes, because things are so right with the UT athletic program. Let's emulate what they do. We didn't lose that game because we held classes.

I was at App a long time ago, but I don't recall anyone holding a gun to my head and telling me I had to go to a class. Though Dr. Tyre may or may not have used a bayonet.

If this game were played in October instead of before Labor Day, the academics at UT may have taken a different stance.

Didn't I see where they had added a day onto the end of the semester to make it up?

Another link. I just don't see cancelling classes for a football game. Another example of athletics over academics.

The game should have been played on a Saturday when there were no classes.

The state’s flagship university announced earlier this week that it will shut down Sept. 1, a Thursday, to accommodate the Volunteers’ season opener. No classes will be held, no university offices will be open. The only activity on campus will be football – and tailgates and pre-game parties, of course.

Yes, legitimate logistical and security concerns were the driving forces behind this decision. With a capacity of 102,455, Neyland Stadium is the fifth-largest college football stadium in the country. There’s no way to accommodate that many game-day revelers without the parking lots and other property that university employees use, and trying to get one group off campus while the other arrives would be a colossal challenge – a colossal headache, too.

Neyland is also in the middle of Tennessee’s campus, with academic buildings and university offices in close proximity. It’s a little hard to do security sweeps when the doors are wide open and people are coming and going.

No classes are cancelled, rather postponed. This is no different than a local public school having a snow day & make-up day. I see nothing wrong with what UT did. They have satisfied all constituents.

"Per an email released by Tennessee on Tuesday, classes for that Thursday, Sept. 1, have been postponed. Additionally, most campus offices will be closed. However, to keep the number of days in the academic calendar consistent, another day of class will be added at the end of the semester. The measures were taken to accommodate traffic, parking and security."

Well thank goodness we don't have to worry with any weekday home games this year.

Snow day can't be helped. A ball game should be played on a Saturday like it was originally scheduled.
