Predict your breakout player for the 2016 season

Unread post by diehardapp18 » Tue Jul 05, 2016 11:46 pm

There's always someone who breaks out and becomes a star player. Last year we had Jalin Moore and Eric Boggs, as well as Gibbs :( who really broke out as some of our best players.

So who do you think takes their game to stardom this year? My guess is Shaedon Meadors. The talent there has been undeniable for awhile, I honestly think he's been our most talented receiver ever since his freshman year. As the #1 this year I really think he can have a 1,000 yard campaign if he stays healthy and every thing goes well. I know our offense incorporates a lot of WR's but I just think this guy is the real deal. This probably isn't that bold of a choice because he's been good for two years now but still. I bet at least one freshman is good form the get-go too, it's just impossible for me to pick one.

I think Shae broke out as a freshman but I agree that he'll probably put up big numbers this year (as the clear #1).

This is probably a fantasy, but I would love to see Jalen Virgil play and breakout this year. The guy is coming in very D1 ready at 6'2 210 lbs and running a legit 4.3.... If he can come in and learn the system, why not play him this year? He'll atleast be able to block effectively with that size.

On Defense look for Rashaad Townes to make a big impact after missing last year, and on offense Mock Adams should be a star in the making at WR.

I'm hoping one of the breakout stars is Rubino. I don't want Critcher to have to handle all the kicking duties again.

On offense, I am hoping that Victor Johnson gets it going on the Oline. Looks like he has packed on about 30 pounds since redshirting last year.

On defense, I expect to see Mr.Duck have a break out year since it looks like he is being forced into early action due to depth issues at corner.

Lots of good names mentioned here. I'll just say I *hope* the breakout stars include Meadors, Johnson, Sims and Hayes/Mondo. I think they all have a chance.

I'll also say that, while he's already an experienced sometime-starter, I think Alex Gray has a chance to take it to another level in his senior year. His size/speed combo looks like Kam Chancellor. Now he just has to put it all together between the lines.

Breakout players:
Offense:
Adams
Johnson
Letman
Nunn - Coming back slowly from his injury but if he's 100%, he's nasty. Not getting a lot of attention by prognisticators. He and Gossett on the right side pave the way for Cox.

Defense:
Pinckney
Sims
Stout
Townes

True Fresh:
Virgil

Agree about AG's tangibles although I hope he has more mental focus. He sometimes allowed himself to get unnecessary penalties or push the envelope which could've resulted in a penalty. If he can dial that part of his game back, he could easily breakout.
Picked up via free agency by the High Country All-Stars

Haven't heard an update recently, but last I heard Harkness' neck injury was expected to be career-ending. He's still on the roster, though, so I assume he's still holding out hope for a comeback.

I actually think Lamb will be the breakout start. I know he's a proven entity, but I've noticed over the last two years that he rarely makes a mistake twice. I think he'll shore up the turnover issues he had against Clemson and ArkSt and he'll be in full control of the offense. He's just an intelligent, mature 'coach's kid.'

Jaquil Capel

He looked like a special teams star in the making the first two games last year before getting hurt. I'm hoping he'll be back this year making a difference either on special teams or at the WR position.

Offensively I think Jaquil Capel has a good chance of leading the team in receptions. Defensively, I'm going with Alex Gray. Everybody knows he's talented, but I'm looking forward to seeing him step out of Doug Middleton's shadow and lead the secondary.

Are we loaded or what? Would someone more in the know start another thread with a proposed early depth chart? I am really intrigued by Taylor- 6'9" and at 305? Dang! What is the optimum weight for a 6'9" OT?

Yeah, he was around 294 when he signed with App. I'll bet that he would still have plenty of quicks playing around 320 or so.
