If this is old news then I apoligize, but I don't ever remember seeing this in print before. What a huge mistake not offering this guy a scholarship and fighting to make him a part of the Appalachian football program. Curious what some locals up in the High Country may know about this. I know my Wofford neighbors here in Spartanburg are glad he is part of their program.

Basically, Eric did not want his parents to pay for his education - Wofford offered, App did not - And, we all know the story from there. The End

From what I understand more is made of this than is necessary.

EB's skill set did not fit the Spread. So JM did not actively pursue EB. Instead I have heard he worked with Mike Ayers of Wofford to help EB go where he could succeed.

Had Eric come to App he would have been perhaps a blocking back or maybe a smallish TE. Im glad he went where he could make a name for himself. I hope he gets the Payton and a chance to play on Sundays.

I don't want to believe this is true, but I bet it is. I don't want my head football coach helping to recruit for any team in my conference. If he wanted to help EB, let him work with someone at Coastal, or Eastern Kentucky or JMU, but don't help send a kid like that to a school in your conference that you have to play against for four years. I can't see Mike Ayers, Kevin Higgins, or Jeff Monken helping us land a kid because he would not fit into the Triple Option offense at Wofford, Citadel, or Georgia Southern.

Look at the bright side of things....if App had EB we would run the dive play 50 times a game instead of 20-25 like we have the last 4 years!

For all the Breitenstein talk, he has closed his career with a 2-2 record against ASU (2-3 if you want to count his RS year he was injured.) He is undoubtedly the best player in Wofford history and has won numerous awards, but Wofford will only have 2 SoCon titles (should the standings hold up) and one ugly playoff exit (jury still out on this season.)

No doubt he's a great player, and it's unfortunate he didn't stay home, but let's not act like Wofford completely owned ASU during his time.

I'm no geography major, but I'm fairly certain a small town called Greenwood, SC is somewhere between Furman and Wofford. ASU has had their fair share of steals, too.

Could out o line open up holes for him? They sure can't open up holes for our backs??

I've always thought this issue was much ado about nothing. EB is a prototypical fullback and a very good one. We do not have a fullback in our offense and have not used one since EB was in about 8th grade. He is a perfect fit for the wingbone offense but he would be a TE or pure short-yardage back at Appalachian. He cannot get to the outside well enough to be an every down tailback in our system. If he played ball anywhere but at Watauga High School, this conversation would never happen.
