Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
What does everyone have planned? Staying close or far away? Hotel a mile away is $325 or six miles away is $100. Is there public transportation or sufficient taxis? Is everyone tailgating or hitting the bars? Any other recommendations?

Re: Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
The last time I went to UT-K for a game I stayed off of Strawberry Plains Pike just a few miles outside of town. The traffic into the game wasn't too bad, and we parked/tailgated at an old cement factory behind the stadium right next to the river. It is a good spot, relatively easy to get in and out of. The flow of traffic after a game there isn't too bad either.

This reminds me I need to cancel my hotel reservation. Moving the game to Thursday really screwed me. Best of luck with your travels, have a beer for me.

We had planned on staying in Pigeon Forge but had to cancel our plans when the game was moved to Thursday night. I teach high school and dos not want to ask for time off with the year just starting.

Re: Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
We've got a reservation for Thursday night just off I-40 on the way home - Fairfield Inn for $89. Depending on how exhausted we are from celebrating the win, we may cancel and just come on home to Asheville. Once we're out of Knoxville, it's not much more of a drive home than a drive home from Boone. Of course, I don't have to deal with 18-wheelers on the "highway" home from Boone.

Re: Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
At the time I booked I looked for newest built/highest rated/best price and availability and ended up off I-40 Westside supposedly 15-20 mins from stadium. Got to check on transit or parking situation. I hear parking for game can be $25-$30. Any info advice welcome. Going to rebook in meantime same place because price has gone down but appears to be very nice place for the money.

I was on a boat in Maui the other day with some Tennessee fans and they saw my App visor and struck up a conversation. These guys were very educated as to who we are now. Knew of Cox and Lamb. Knew Blair was drafted. Seemed pretty excited to be playing us instead of a lightweight as they put it. Hopefully we can live up to their expectations.

I haven't price checked but Turkey Creek is a nice area of Knoxville. It's about 15-20 minutes from the stadium west down i40. Lots a places to eat and shop.
I would probably just avoid hotels east of downtown and north of the interstate (though some don't look too bad the further west you go down i40. Hope that helps!
Now, places to eat is the real topic!

Thank you. Makes me feel better, staying at Staybridge near Turkey Creek. Just gotta figure out best place to park at stadium area.

Re: Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
No problem! Yeah parking is a bit of a hassle. There's several good places to park on a Saturday game that are free on weekends, but won't be for a Thursday game.
I'd either (1) pay the $30, get close to the stadium and forget about it or (2) try the parking garage at the corner of Wall and Walnut or the one at 520 State St.

In order to save a few dollars, we are staying a few minutes outside of town considering trips to Troy, Akron and Statesboro loom on the horizon.

Could I get an idea about where everyone is sitting? I am trying to sit as close to app fans as possible.

Re: Tennessee hotels and tailgating?
Those of us who purchased tickets through App won't know until the season ticket packets come out. That's usually when we get our tickets for the first away game as well. The App allotment will be in the sections marked as visitor sections on the Neyland Stadium seating chart.
