Revisiting Track Removal/Renovation

Okay, for the longest time I kept telling myself that our track around our stadium didn't really matter. Upon further thought on the subject, there has to be a way to change the aesthetic of our football stadium for the good. Don't get me wrong - Kidd Brewer is one of the most scenic backdrops for a football game that I have ever frequented. Also, I totally get that Kraut Creek runs under the stadium and might be the cause of concern for digging down, etc...
However, I was looking at what Nevada did with their stadium and they at least built some endzone seating to cover the track on the ends. Looks much better than just leaving it out in the open. Could we realistically take care of this issue in the next 5 years ?

IMO this needs to be priority #1 on the docket. It really is small time and not aesthetically pleasing either. If we're taking money out of the equation the it's absolutely realistic to have it out of there in 5 years, Duke did it in an off season. As for problems with digging down, I would assume if they had no problems putting the track down there shouldn't be any problem tearing it up. Could be wrong, though. Not sure how I would feel about what Nevada did either, I kinda like it but the on the other hand it's a cheap fix and still doesn't look great.

Agree with where your coming from totally. Thanks for the Nevada photo to stir imagination.
I think the most cost effective approach would be to plan for a nice aesthetically designed building with suite boxes and stands for the north now Owens field house end zone first that totally closes in that end of KBS. Then as time and money allows shift the field over to home side and then take the pitch of upper deck east/visitor side and extend stands down covering the lower deck and could make concourse area on that side larger. Later on way down road could extend upper deck on home side and wrap the corners with raised corners leaving gap in middle for grass hill for tradition and overflow.

FWIW this has never left the top of the list. And despite what some have heard no options have been removed and everything is still being looked at. Just takes time and a LOT of back and forth.

Am long time friends with one of the T and F coaches. He tells me more than one option is on the table. Something will happen when all the i's are dotted and t's crossed

I am a '91 graduate and a long time season ticket holder. I understand the draw of Miller Hill and being able to use that area as general admission seating. However, I think the time has come to close the gap on that end of the stadium. I would love to see permanent seating erected in both end zones and I feel that seating needs to be butted right up against the back of the end zone. As good as our home field advantage is, it could be so much better (ie louder).

I'd prefer to build up the north endzone seating where the track is and connect the two lower sections of the east and west and add club seating to the top on those seats. Then regrade Miller hill so it comes up to the south endzone.

How long has the bank been named Miller hill and who is the Miller in Miller hill? Just started hearing recently that's all.

First step should be to add a screen of some sort to the north endzone. That will give many more options of what to do in the south endzone.

I've always wondered if simply painting the track the same green as the playing field, then re-striping it was an option for the short-term. That would really help it blend. However, like most, I'd like to see if relocated.

One shoe will have to drop before the other can.

When this occurs, I'd like the hill to be extended to the field and graded so it's not as steep.

I know this aggravates some of you guys but the business owner in me asks again. Where will the money come from? Are we even breaking even yet?

Look to Boise. This needs to be done for tv. Just add temporary mats/turf over track. There is no reason why we cannot do this on the sides this year, instead of gray put green or black.

That is much worse than we have.
