“If you’re a good host, that will help you. We just want to make sure that Miami and Wake Forest have a good experience, and we’re going to do everything we can to make that experience as great for them here. Then certainly we hope they’ll tell their peers whatever conference that might be — that Appalachian treats you right when you come up here.”

Doug should have added, "that Appalachian treats you right when you come up here everywhere except on the field!"

Great article. Let's do our part as fans too. Keep it classy. Alcohol will cause some to be a complete dumb ass, but let that be the very small minority. Enjoy this magical moment.

Noon kickoff will make it tough for many people to get too intoxicated. Luckily for me I don't need alcohol to be a complete dumb ass.

I'm with you Watauga. Let's be nice to them and all but take them to the woodshed during the hours of 12:00pm - 3:30pm. ;)

Just reserved a cabin about 5 minutes from downtown Boone, called Top of Boone, for the 16th through the 18th! Going up early on Friday to enjoy the whole weekend in Boone. Looking forward to another great season! Hopefully we will surpass last years!

One of the things that caught my eye was 5600 season tickets sold. With that being a little less than a quarter of the stadiums capacity, is that that good?

I was under the impression that we were doing better than 5,600. Wasn't there something just posted saying close to 75% of the sections were filled with season ticket holders? I could be making this up or misunderstood.

Does anyone know how many Yosef Club donors we have at this point?

They tend to word the public announcements to make them sound as favorable as possible. The last one made it sound like there were barely any seats left for Miami unless you really read it closely.

I am not 100% certain, but I think the article you are referencing indicated it was 75% of non student sections. That would include the 2,500 tickets Miami has requested.

It was talking about "premium" seating.

Is it good from a where we need/want to be standpoint? No. Is it good from a better than last year stand point? Yes.

The stadium capacity without temp seats is 21,500. About 6,000 are reserved for students so that takes us down to 15,500. Now subtract 2,500 for what Miami requested and we are at 13,000. Then take out the remaining general admin seats, luxury boxes that are used to entertain, seats for recruits and families ect. and we have maybe 10-11K season ticket seats available.

The only information I see on AppStateSports.com says 4 YC sections are sold out, and we are on pace to hit our goal of 7,500 season tickets. Maybe the 7,500 number is what made you think of 75%?

If we wanted to make the Miami game memorable, we'd pull out all the stops to top the fan experience, student-athlete experience, and local experience. A few suggestions:

- Open the gates earlier that day and allow fans into their seats so they can really pack the place out.
- Host a bonfire on Duck Pond Field on Friday night to allow students, alumni, and staff the chance to hang out and prepare for the game.
- Make this game a total contrast to the ODU game by making it a black out. Provide everybody in the stadium a shirt for free.
- Hand out rally towels when people walk in to encourage them to get loud and keep the team energized.
- Figure out a way to make a beer garden finally happen before and after the game.
- Work with Downtown Boone/King Street to enhance the gameday experience from Galileo's down to Dan'l Boone Inn and back to the stadium.

It is probably this sentence here from the AppStSports article 9 days ago:

"...In addition to 11 sections being sold out, a total of 16 of The Rock’s 27 non-student sections are at 85-percent capacity or above."

What I think it is saying is the 16 includes the 11 sections already sold out. That said I can see where one could deduce that of the 27 non student sections 11 are sold out and the remaining sections are 85% sold. If that is the case, then the 75% # is too low.

Since Doug basically said we are using this game as an opportunity to host future P5 schools, all efforts should be made to pack the stadium for a record crowd of 35k-40k. Opening gates early will be the easiest option to ensure a smooth process and help eliminate the bottlenecking. Allowing fans to tailgate earlier than usual would also help prevent everyone from entering at the same time. 9am tailgate for a noon game...That's rough. Doesn't leave much time to tailgate before kickoff. Anyone have any word on if they intend to open tailgate sooner? Stadium needs to look packed at kickoff and loud. Less than 3 months...I'm pumped.

Bingo. At first glance you read that and think the stadium is nearly sold out. Then when you read it more carefully, you realize there are 11 sections that most likely have plenty of seats left.
