Great to be mentioned, but they are still using the outdated gorton's fisherman logo.

Was that on the video? I did not watch that, just read the article and did not see the old logo there. I could not get past the one guys voice. I thought I was listening to Gilbert Gottfried trying to mimic Gilbert Gottfried.AppDawg wrote:Great to be mentioned, but they are still using the outdated gorton's fisherman logo.

UMass picked dead last (#128) and 62% of the respondents say their ranking is too high, talk about no respect! LMAO

Did you go to the full list? I just looked again and saw the pic below. I know DG was all over this last season.Rekdiver wrote:I just looked and the Block A was thereAppDawg wrote:I clicked on the full list of 128. Re: CBS Sports top 128
Of all the preseason rankings, I've seen us anywhere from 43 to 58. Actually, I think I saw 70 for one poll, but immediately disregarded that one. Our Massey composite ranking is 47.

Anything outside the top 10 or so is "whatever " to me. I'm cool with being considered in the top 40. That is the top third of BCS teams.

Re: CBS Sports top 128
Here is how I look at it.
In 2014 we started our FBS career with preseason projections in the 120's - nobody gave us any respect. We got off to a slow start but by the end of the season we started getting some attention that we were a program on the rise.
In 2015 we started the season, if I recall correctly, somewhere in the 70-90's range. We had basically convinced some people that we had improved and were ready to move up the pecking order. We delivered with 11-2 including bowl win. At the end of season we had most people thinking we were in the 30-40's range with a 33 ranking in AP, 34 in coaches.
In 2016 we seemed to have dropped a little in preseason from end of previous year but most put us in the 40-50's range. That does not offend me in the least. We are also getting people's attention that we are rising but still have more proving to do. We have to deliver consistently over several years.
This is the path that I envisioned was possible for App when we chose to move to FBS. I never expected to instantly jump to a top 25 program but I did believe that it was achievable to move up and gain a national reputation as a top program, with real and regular top 25 status. We still have much work to do from a FBS level depth and quality of recruiting perspective but we are on a great path right now.
I am extremely proud of the job that Satterfield has done with our program.

Re: CBS Sports top 128
Being ranked in the 40's means we are ahead of ~20 P5 programs. Considering the level of funding and exposure they have, and the decades of a head start they have on us this is very respectful. To be in the top 35 at the end of year 2 was a huge accomplishment for our program. Very few G5 teams stay in the top 40 for years on end so I'll be very happy to be in that range most years. If we move up into the top 25 or higher then its gravy.AtlAppMan wrote:Here is how I look at it.

Re: CBS Sports top 128
Being ranked in the top 50 to start the season is great place for our program, especially if one of the goals is to be ranked in the top 25. The program in most years will only get one shot at a top 25 ranked team (money game). In most years, it's doubtful App will get to play against a top 25 conference mate unless we play said conference team towards the end of the year and they have gone 3-1 or 4-0 OOC.
Saw this list on nfl.com about the top 5 college QB's to watch. App gets to face 2 (#4 Dobbs-UTk & #2 Kaaya-UM) of the top 5 QB's this year and the D will have faced 3 (#1 Watson-CU) of the top 5 over the past 2 seasons.

Re: CBS Sports top 128
From the CBS 128, we are ranked ahead of NC State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Wake, Syracuse, UVA and BC, and only 6 spots behind Virginia Tech.JTApps1 wrote:Being ranked in the 40's means we are ahead of ~20 P5 programs. Re: CBS Sports top 128
So it will be interesting to see if the UT-VaTech line opens at UT -20 given that we are closely ranked. They are playing on a neutral field. That will all depend on how the 'Neers handle the Vols on opening night, Sept. 1.

Re: CBS Sports top 128
Interesting question. That one's on a neutral field, so that would make a little difference. Purely a guess, but I'll say if that line were set today it would be something like UT -14.AtlAppMan wrote:So it will be interesting to see if the UT-VaTech line opens at UT -20 given that we are closely ranked.
