I've talked to a few of you guys here and there, but I'd like to have this thread up for discussion and any questions you have regarding Tennessee leading up to September 1st.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I can't wait to take in the game in Neyland! Our plan currently is to scoot over from Asheville for the game and make a very late night of getting back home. Of course, if David does happen to slay Goliath (not likely I know), we'll want to hang around KTown for awhile.

I heard we should check the website for rules and regulations. I believe they have restrictions on what you can carry in and have implemented the clear bag rule.

Neyland is an awesome place to take in a game, and the atmosphere is second to none in my opinion(I'm biased lol). Hope you have a great experience!

I've been to Neyland for a Saturday game against Auburn a few years back. We had to park on basically the other side of town and walk which wasn't too bad, but what do you think the best plan would be for Thursday night? The lot we parked in will likely be full due to people working that day.

There's a United Methodist Church on Cumberland that has great parking/tailgating, and it's a first come, first serve lot. It usually opens at 9am for later kick offs, but I would obviously try to get there before then. I'd also try the 906 Poplar St lot, this is basically on campus and fills up quickly. If you can get there it's worth it.

You can also park in the garage downtown and take the trolley to the game. It can be slow going back but based on ages it should be a reasonable stroll if you don't want to wait on the trolley. Some local hotels also have shuttles with parking at the hotel even if you are not a guest.

I was in Gatlinburg around 1999 when the Gators invaded Knoxville.I think there were more alumni there (both) than in Knox county.From what I could tell, most didn't have tickets,they watched on tv and PARTYED BIGTIME at our hotel.You didn't have to watch,when anybody scored,you would hear a big roar!WBIR tv was talking about how to cook gator on their news.

It's hard to say since I haven't seen it run yet, but from everything that's been reported is that it's a aggressive style of dense, exotic blitzes, pressure constantly, etc. I would say if you really wanted a good look at it, to go and fund some Penn state film from last year.

I think we'll see a lot of base defense from them unless we have early success.

This is most likely true. We may reveal our hand a bit against VT, but unless you guys are swinging for the fences with success, you likely will not see what our defense will truly look like until we play Florida in week 4.

That being said, although we ended up winning big, our vanilla play calling made the first half of the BGSU game last year a lot closer than many would have expected. Their pass happy attack, combined with their ridiculous receiver (Dieter, who transferred to Bama this year) and our secondary coach being suspended for the game made it uncomfortable for a while.

I don't think you'll see a lot of difference. Virtually the same players are all back, so personnel won't change. Blitzes and pressures would be different, but most of the time these are limited in season openers. I'll tell you the biggest difference UT fans are hoping to see is an improvement in the secondary. Too many times we had alignment issues and busted coverages, as well as corners beat one-on-one. I know you guys are a run-first team, but if I'm your OC, I challenge UT's secondary early to see if I could get a cheap TD.

Yea I went back and watched most of the Vol v BGSU game. It appeared their WR's were getting behind the Vol secondary on a consistent basis. In the past, App's WR's have struggled to get off the line when the secondary presses them. By all accounts, App has upgraded the size, athleticism and speed at WR but the majority are untested. They are getting thrown into the fire when they walk into Neyland.

On O, the Vol's seemed to establish the run with 30+ attempts in the first half against the Falcons, 64 total for the game. I believe 25 of those first half carries came from Hurd and Kamara. I think we'll see that same approach from DeBord in the 2016 opener. It also appeared the Vols killed BGSU on special teams (outside the missed FG's by the Vols). I don't recall which quarter (mid to late 2nd qtr???) the game was in but the Vols average starting field position was the 49. Hopefully App's kicker will put it through the endzone on kickoffs and the punter will keep the ball away from Berry.
