Just a useless random thought for discussion. Does Rubino have the leg for a 60 yarder?

Well, very few college kickers (or pro kickers for that matter) make a 60-yarder in a game, so that's a pretty high standard. Have read that he has hit from 50+ in practice/scrimmage, but needs to be more consistent.

My main concern with leg strength is the ability to kick deep to avoid returns at will. But as you say consistency is the key concern.

Not sure Rubino will be handling KOs.

Oh definitely agree that's the exception not the norm. Would be cool to see in the right conditions. I absolutely would rather have a kicker who can put balls in the end zone or right at the goal line. Kick coverage has always worried me.

So is Critcher handling kickoffs and punts?
Odd the roster shows Rubio as P & K and Critcher as K.
Notice two FR kickers .... Stanton and Romanoski

Romonowski is a LS/FB, Not a kicker. Guessing that is a typing mistake that will be corrected next time they update the roster.
As for kickoffs, both have been doing them in practice and both have been doing well, according to reports. Making all the kicks (through the back, directional, spot, etc). It will come down to who they feel is the better of the two as to who will handle the duties.
And to the FG kicking of Rubino, camp reports have been as said, that his distance is fine but he's just been a little off sometimes. And by that I mean the kicks he's been missing have been just outside the uprights, ball width outside. Just needs a slight adjustment, which they have been working on. Below is a direct quote from yesterday's practice report.
Showing Off the Leg
Freshman kicker Michael Rubino continues to show what he can do when kicking a field goal. After hitting a 50-yard field goal yesterday in the scrimmage, Rubino boomed a 52-yard field goal through the uprights during the hurry-up scenario. He also hit a 42-yarder before practice ended.

And one other point I forgot to mention. We do have another kicker/punter that announced that he was coming as a PWO. He was the last one to announce and was listed in my 2016 Recruiting thread on the last page. He is listed as being in school on the .edu site and shows App Football Class of 20 on his twitter. We'll see if he shows up on the next roster update as well.

Last night ending the Colts-Ravens game, the Colts kicker attempted a 62 yarder and it fell at least 5 yards short.

60 is definitely out there. I consider any kick over 50 to be really good.

I'd like to see him only kick extra points. Lots and lots of extra points
