More seats at KBS
Are these add-on bleachers the same as last year or an improvement ? 2,500 is a nice start.....

2,500 is the same as the last few years. Was hoping for more for the Miami game to cram more people in.DontPlayWithYosef wrote:Are these add-on bleachers the same as last year or an improvement ? 2,500 is a nice start.....

Re: More seats at KBS
The article mentioned standing room option at the field level for the Miami game. I'm thinking they will allow fans field access like they did for the Western game years back when we hung 70+ on them. The bleachers look a tad different than the ones from last year. Not as tall but it seems to accommodate the same capacity 2,500.

Re: More seats at KBS
I am utterly scratching my head on this in disbelief. I would hope and there usually are underlying reasons but you would think they could easily and safely with the space alotted, expand/ construct the end zone seating to a nice looking 5000 number without great deal more expense. For one they have ample space on the ends to add more stands and still have access space for vehicles etc.Goapps15 wrote:2,500 is the same as the last few years. I hope I am wrong and would be first to admit if I am......but I get the feeling our administrators are totally dropping the ball in preparation for this season especially the Miami game.
I would hope they add two more entrance gates to be open one at grass hill east side end and another at flag poles. The Miami game especially being on ESPN you want the folks in the seats early without any congestion. Also as others have mentioned numerous times....we need to have zig zag ropes for some concessions and restrooms where deemed. Portable restrooms and concessions will be necessary for the Miami game as well.
Hopefully the aisles and walkways are monitored but I don't see it happening.....feels like we are going to have the same ol same ol for an all time record crowd.
But again....the end zone seating staying the same at North end zone I do not understand. Looks like they could add seating in the junk bin area on East side corner near grass hill as well.
KICK ASS!!!

Re: More seats at KBS
I have thrown out the bleacher/seating question a few times. Guess this might be the answer. I'm no engineer or bleacher expert but I agree. We should be able to get way more seating on the end of the field. I live near Ft Bragg and they were able to construct a temporary baseball stadium. All the bleacher were put up and subsequently removed. It could be a safety concern especially if they are squeezing rowdy college students onto the temp bleachers.

The article indicated field level speculating areas would be added in the south end zone. That doesn't have to be SRO.

Re: More seats at KBS
I'm hoping they will use the gate beside Owens and the Box Office for students wanting to sit in these seats, or just students in general. That would help eliminate some congestion at the main gate. No matter what everyone better plan on getting to the stadium a little earlier than normal. Hopefully they will use the ODU game as a test for any extras like this before going all in on Miami.
As for the seating, I know we had more seats than this back around 2012 when Montana came to town, but they have since reduced the number after the huge crowds from those days dwindled down a bit.

Re: More seats at KBS
They may add additional seating after the Old Dominion game since it likely won't have quite the attendance the Miami game will (I hope I'm wrong on this since ODU is the home opener). I'm afraid in our zest for the U, attendance might get the short end against ODU. I admit I had to choose between the 2 weekends and chose Miami. (I will make the UT game).

Re: More seats at KBS
Other than the sections around midfield, most of the reserved sections are still mostly unsold for ODU. Unless we upset UT, it looks like it's going to be a weak crowd for the home opener, even with the discount promotion.SpeedkingATL wrote:They may add additional seating after the Old Dominion game since it likely won't have quite the attendance the Miami game will (I hope I'm wrong on this since ODU is the home opener). That is disappointing. We obviously do not have the fanbase that we want to believe we have.EastHallApp wrote:Other than the sections around midfield, most of the reserved sections are still mostly unsold for ODU. Re: More seats at KBS
Are there any charts, demographics that show where our active Yosef (season ticket holders) live? I wonder how many live within 2 hours of Boone? It gets expensive to travel up to 3 hours away, pay for tickets, hotel and food. I'm not conjuring up excuses. Maybe just explanations- of course this isn't a relevation.

It also doesn't help that we beat ODU 49-0 last year. I expect a better team this year but to the average fan they see that and would rather travel to UT next week and skip ODU and come back for Miami.
Just a reasonable thing. We have a good fanbase but Appalachian does not have a huge amount of local alums in Boone like a lot of others have in our G5 demographic.

Re: More seats at KBS
Think of it this way, you don't build a parking garage at the mall JUST because you don't have enough parking at Christmas. Trying to add a ton of seats for MIami is an expense I don't think is justified, and would not be a smart use of money. It's more expensive than you think to add those seats and take them down, and I don't want to see more aluminum the rest of the home games. It's one mans opinion that we are doing the right thing here.

Re: More seats at KBS
I doubt we had 2,500 seats in the South End Zone last year. I'm guessing more like 1,000 -- maybe 1,500.

Re: More seats at KBS
I do 4.5 hrs each way from Atlanta for most home games, maybe stay over once per season. I bet you most major universities have the bulk of their attendance coming from more than 2 hrs away. That would be a good statistic to know. Now if you have 5 kids you probably can't afford it anyway since you spend all your disposable income on their baseball, soccer, clothes and food anyway.

I do this with my family 6 times a year. Not bad at all. Especially with 3:30 kick-offs.bcoach wrote:three hours you can drive up and back same day and not have a hotel billbigdaddyg wrote:Are there any charts, demographics that show where our active Yosef (season ticket holders) live? I just want to comment on what a wonderful view we have of Howard's Knob from KBS. What a blessing for the university to have as part of the experience at KBS.
