USA TODAY released their updated NCAA Football Preseason Poll today. The ho-hum news is that we've dropped 6 places to 43. But on the uptick, it's nice to see who's below us in the rankings. Names such as Penn State, Virginia Tech, A&M, Duke, Mississippi State, Navy, BYU, NC State, ECU.

Dead last? UNCC.

They have us better that Texas A&M, Vandy, Mississippi State, Vandy and South Carolina............We might be a little high for my taste but they got UNCC correct.

USA today has always been a little partial to us but I love it!

After the next 3 weeks we will certainly know where App stands.

Next-highest Sun Belt teams are stAte (63) and GS (65).

San Diego St is a bit of a head scratcher. I believe they are (for what it is worth) #30 in the AP preseason poll.

I missed an iteration of the USA Today poll, the first they published App was ranked 50. I generally take pre-season polls with a grain of salt, but it is a bit telling that Duke started at 86 in the first poll, lost the starting QB for the season late last week, and is now 60 . . . brings into question who exactly ordered the team below the top 30 or so . . .

I'm not sure I agree with the ranking of San Diego St. either. 14 seems a little high.

So by these USA today ranking, App State is Tennessee's fifth toughest opponent. Interesting.

Pointless ranking. You know who the really bad teams are and you know who the top 5 or so probably are. The teams from say, 30-60 are a crapshoot. Just my opinion

will App move up in polls?

Not until we win our next two games.

This particular poll isn't one of the "official" ones, but I wouldn't be shocked if we get a vote or two in the AP poll and gain votes in the coaches poll. We'll see.
