WSJ Article Am I missing something or is Hamilton on to something?
Am I missing something or is Scott Hamilton not seeing the whole picture of last night? I look forward to the thoughts of the board on this article I am posting. http://www.journalnow.com/sports/column ... 3bc06.html

What the hell is he talking about? That might be about the worst game analysis I have read in a long time. Momentum? There was no freaking momentum swing. We played a damn good team toe to toe. They got a huge lucky bounce in OT. That ball goes slightly one way or the other and we recover who knows. Momentum didn't have anything to do with a shank PAT. They never Gaines momentum. We controlled the clock and kept the game manageable. Stupid analysis

Journalism is a lost art. This guy, 90% of the articles on ESPN, and 90% on major news outlets. Garbage.

If he hadn't mentioned the score, the reader would think App got outscored 28-0 in the 4th quarter.
The only momentum that lead to the final score of that game last night was the momentum of the ball coming out of Dobbs hand after a punishing hit by Keenan Gilchrist.

UT had several chances to seize the momentum after the score to tie the game but our defense simply did not let them.

I had read this article this morning before you posted it and I must say it didn't make any sense to me either - it would be as if someone didn't watch the game and only looked at 4th Q stats to determine "momentum" ---WVAppsfan wrote:Am I missing something or is Scott Hamilton not seeing the whole picture of last night? I noticed some of the announcing (although good overall) was a little defensive of the big boys and a little patronizing of us. I think for people who report on the big boys or those part of big boy football find guys like us threatening their turf freighting, even if they're not Tn people. Face it, we scared the hell out of those folks.

That wasn't journalism. It was thinkpiece mumbo-jumbo./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:Journalism is a lost art. This guy, 90% of the articles on ESPN, and 90% on major news outlets. Garbage.
And the only "momentum" I care about is the momentum of Kennan Gilchrist absolutely thundering into Dobbs, and the momentum of the ball as it trickled into the endzone and was recovered by Hurd. That's the "momentum" that killed us. The rest is just something that hacks use to fill column inches.

Pretty weak article. Seems like he was quoting Lamb. In fairness, App had the momentum for much of the game after Sutton fumbled the punt. UT got it back, as well as about a 1/3rd of their offensive production, on 2 pass plays. App did a great job of keeping the Vols at bay and seizing the game.

It appeared he phoned in this article. He already had it written before the game and then just inserted some post game quotes. My 5 year old nephew could've written a better article than this joker

Re: WSJ Article Am I missing something or is Hamilton on to something?
Almost like the SEC in-game announcers . Tenn would make a play that gain yards, "Well the Vols are changing this momentum here. They are taking this game over". Then a force 3 and out. No respect.
Those that watched the game know that the field was even! 0-0 at the start and 13-13 at the end. Hell of a game.

I wasn't impressed by the article either, but I do think they snatched a little momentum on the drive leading up to their game tying TD, and that carried over to the next defensive series. They didn't hold it for long, but it was just enough to keep their players and the crowd in it

Re: WSJ Article Am I missing something or is Hamilton on to something?
Last night was definitely one that we should have won. After viewing various news outlets this AM, App is getting no respect, even from the "local" WSJ. Most are trying to focus on Tennessee's "poor performance" as opposed to the fact that App just might be a top 25 team. Next week it's ODU, need to take care of business and not look past them. Then in two weeks when Miami comes to town App will be provided another opportunity to prove that we are in fact "that good", tired of this fluke bull crap. Go Apps!!

Re: WSJ Article Am I missing something or is Hamilton on to something?
Was this written by Scott Hamilton, the figure skater from years past? Or a WS middle schooler who had to write an story for his 6th grade class before he went to bed, before the game even started. Seemed like more of a bedtime story than sports writing.
This does not reflect the game I watch every minute of. And yes, the Vols had the stud scared out of them last night only to get a few breaks in the end. Momentum, no!

Perhaps UT is closer to a #22 ranked team and we are closer to a #25 ranked team. They could get much better as could we. We continue to prove that recruiting star rankings don't always pan out. Heart, desire, coaching, game plans, etc make a difference.
