Run the table just for kicks discussion
Houston looks pretty good right now and it sounds like they might set themselves up for a major bowl if they win out- big game with Louisville though. IF we win out who could leapfrog us to the NY Day 6 bowl? I realize the obvious answer is lots of teams but say we run the table are we in the discussion?

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Houston would have to lose 2 for us to have a shot at leapfrogging them after beating OU.

I'm not talking about leapfrogging Houston. This assumes they go unbeaten and land a spot in a major bowl and the G5 spot goes to another school.JTApps1 wrote:Houston would have to lose 2 for us to have a shot at leapfrogging them after beating OU.

Gotcha. In that case I don't think another G5 would go.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Mike and Mike discussed this topic a bit today. An undefeated Houston- very possible, most certainly gets a final 4 if there is only, say 1 or 2 undefeated P5's.
I should have prefaced this initial thought by saying- yes we have to take it one game at a time, don't get ahead of ourselves, etc. I only mentioned it was because of how good (potentially) Houston might be. Heck OU might really suck but I doubt it.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Boise State will probably go undefeated.
Even if they finish 12-1, they would still get the nod over us because the MWC is seen as superior to the SBC. They have a conference championship game, which will get them one more win than us if both teams win out.

Most likely. They do play BYU but would probably have to slip up once in the next couple of weeks but I doubt WSU or OSU has enough.S.Lewis15 wrote:Boise State will probably go undefeated.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
As we all agree this is all premature but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it --- As for Houston, not only do they need to go undefeated but they better hope Oklahoma does as well, which will be really tough for them as they play Ohio State and must travel to Texas (which looked really good), TCU, Texas Tech and West BY GOD Virginia and don't forget Baylor and OK State --- Again, all premature, but if APP can run the table and finish 11-1 - if I am not mistaken - we still would only get to go to one of the minor SunBelt bowl tie-ins - correct? - Is there a clause where the SunBelt can release a team to play in a bigger-named bowl game? ---

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Haven't looked it up, but I have to think a G5 team qualifying for the playoff would use up the only automatic G5 NY6 spot.
I'm thinking the more realistic goal might be a top 25 ranking.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Have not heard of any such thing, and I'm having trouble envisioning how it would work anyway. For one thing, any "big-name" bowl game worth going to is going to be filled by automatic tie-ins to major conferences.WVAPPeer wrote:As we all agree this is all premature but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it --- As for Houston, not only do they need to go undefeated but they better hope Oklahoma does as well, which will be really tough for them as they play Ohio State and must travel to Texas (which looked really good), TCU, Texas Tech and West BY GOD Virginia and don't forget Baylor and OK State --- Again, all premature, but if APP can run the table and finish 11-1 - if I am not mistaken - we still would only get to go to one of the minor SunBelt bowl tie-ins - correct? - Is there a clause where the SunBelt can release a team to play in a bigger-named bowl game? ---

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
So we think the short and sweet answer is- even if Houston gets a final 4 there is no possible way we get a New Year's Day bowl?EastHallApp wrote:Have not heard of any such thing, and I'm having trouble envisioning how it would work anyway. Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
my limited understanding is we have only 2 options - NY6 or a preset SunBelt tie in game ...bigdaddyg wrote:So we think the short and sweet answer is- even if Houston gets a final 4 there is no possible way we get a New Year's Day bowl?EastHallApp wrote:Have not heard of any such thing, and I'm having trouble envisioning how it would work anyway. Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
Keep in mind, though, to get the NY6 bid, you have to win your conference championship. Houston could go 12-0 and then lose to a tough USF team in the AAC title game, and they'd be out of luck (assuming they aren't picked for an at-large spot).

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
If another conference doesn't have enough teams with 6 wins, the bowls are free to choose whomever.
Last year coming down the stretch there was concern that the ACC wouldn't have enough to fill all of their tie-ins. I seem to recall that we were on the shortlist to backfill one of those spots. Same could happen this year.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
They're not free to choose anyone they please; they're free to choose any team from another conference that didn't go to one of its own league's primary tie-ins. In other words, we'd have to be passed over by all five Sun Belt bowls before we'd go somewhere else. If that happens, safe to say we haven't had a great year.AppDawg wrote:If another conference doesn't have enough teams with 6 wins, the bowls are free to choose whomever.

And those bowls aren't all that much better than our primary tie-ins. We're talking about the ones that are ninth or tenth in the pecking order for P5 leagues.

Re: Run the table just for kicks discussion
So we basically get left out due to no conference championship? Hope that gets fixed next year or the year after. Obviously a weak conference schedule gets us as well. And the no-brainer, as always is...gotta win the next game. That's understood. Topic is "just for kicks"!!
