2017 Schedule

Looked at the 2017 schedule and noticed we are missing one more OOC game. Two on the road (UMass and UGA), and Wake at home. I would expect the last OOC to be a home game. Do you all think if we have success this year, we can land another P5 or top G5 at home?

It was supposed to be Akron.

I'm guessing it still will be Akron, they just haven't officially picked a date yet. It'll probably be played on the 9th.

The 9th is the only open date Akron has left for next year. It's currently open for us as well. Why no announcement or decision?

And Wake and UGA will be early picks to win their conference divisions- lol. Seriously though Troy? Has Clemson dropped off from last year or is Troy a threat?

Troy seems to be where we were a season and half ago. The trip to Troy will be a difficult one I believe. The last three teams Clemson has played are Alabama schools. Has not been an easy stretch for them.

9/16/17 was penciled in for Akron per the future schedules at the main website and at FBSchedules.com.

I am completely confused now. They just set up the home and home with Troy on that date.

Troy with the home and home with Boise. Good move for them. Although I appreciate hosting P5 schools, I feel it is more beneficial to play some of the top and better known G5 programs.

We shall see..DG has a good vision.

What is so confusing? We play Akron in Boone next season date TBD. From the article you linked:

Akron has also completed their 2017 non-conference schedule with the addition of Troy. The Zips are also slated to open the season at Penn State on Sept. 2, host Iowa State on Sept. 23, and travel to Appalachian State on a date to be announced.

I just don't understand why a date hasn't been announced yet looking at both teams schedules. I'm probably thinking too much into it. My wife tells me I'm very much book smart, and common sense dumb. This could be another example of that.

The Akron/Troy announcement was six days ago. Chill. The game will probably will be moved up to Sept 9th.

We know we're playing Akron. I don't imagine too many people are putting their lives on hold waiting for the exact date.

From looking at the Akron message board, found the Zips link to the updated future OOC scheduling. They are showing @ App as 2022? I'm wondering if we have some schedule news upcoming on our end?

I think that if we are going to build the program and earn the respect we want (which will take time) we might be better off looking at five home games fairly often. A million plus payday (UF, FSU, UGA, USC, CU, VaTech?, UT...) and a 500K plus payday in the SEC, traditional ACC region. I just think we are better off getting to play at UVA and getting a check than hosting NC Central (just as an example). Money and exposure and a handful of P5 wins moves us towards our long-term goal.

Disagree, six home games should be the first priority every year.

The way our schedule set up from 2015-2017 is just about perfect.

Maybe this has to do with the ECU rumor and it hasn't been announced because they are working with the schedule. They have West Virginia for Sept 9th. Think they'll move them?

DG has said that his scheduling philosophy is for 6 home games a year with 1 away P5 "money game"; 1 FCS home game; and either 2 G5 "peer conference" schools or 1 G5 & 1 "lower tier" P5 we can get a H&H series against. I have no problem with this approach.

If we could somehow get something similar to NC Central / NC FCS team, Clemson / Georgia, ECU / Marshall, and Old Dominion / Charlotte OR NC Central, Clemson, ECU, Wake / Vandy (lower tier P5) or some combo of that year in and year out would be ideal. Give majority of alums and fan base a location to drive to and brings solid talent to the Rock over time.

Why? How are we better off paying NCCU to play in front of 23,000 (or so) for a half on ESPN 3 than getting paid to play at Kentucky on the SEC Network?
