NC's Band of Distinction

Boy, the band sounded AWESOME on Saturday! The music choices were lively classic tunes too. They sounded loud, proud and like the members were having fun. Plus, one can never have too much Freddie Mercury.

Agree that the band was good. Someone needs to tell the PA operator to shut down the canned music when the band enters the stadium and marches around the field for the pre-game. Matter of fact the canned music should be "canned" between plays, let the band pump up the crowd. I prefer to hear the students preform rather than over paid so called musicians.

One thing I will gripe about was that the band entered and walked all the way around the track, playing the entire time, and the music from the speakers didn't cut out until they played right in front of the student section.
And there was no Mountain Music.

I don't understand why we play 9tenths of a second worth of music between plays. Sometimes it barely began and then stopped. Of course I'm not a fan of playing music so much anyway. The BOD ROCKS! They did a great job and I prefer to hear them get the crowd going. Playing appropriate music through the system at appropriate times can actually add to the excitement. But most of the time it was just noise. And play me some mountain music! Great job BOD

I thought the half-time show was great. Always love the BOD. Does anyone know if they continue to grow? What is the current number?

My 2 kids grew up in HS band, one went on to FSU and played in their band (incredibly good experiences).
I really appreciate the dedication of our BOD. Few realize the amount of effort to put shows on the field and music in the stands.
Couldn't agree more about a good variety of music from the stands, less frequent but more significant selections between plays (e.g. Darth Vader theme after big hit), and absolutely LESS recorded music from the PA system.

It would be fun to welcome Miami to Kidd Brewer with Florida State's fight song. Coordinate with the student section to end it with spelling out FLORIDA STATE.

This is the worst idea of the week so far.
We're App State, not anyone else.

You beat me to it T-Dog, so I'll move on to my next point.
We have won the battle of stadium cups and ice and now also got our black end zones back. Let's get the word to the powers that be about how we all seem to feel about the horrible canned music. It's gotta go or at least be used on a very limited basis and at the appropriate times. And does it all really have to be hip-hop? Drowning out the BOD as they entered was bad but It should never play while we have the ball and they did that several times almost right up to the snap. Somebody up there has to take charge of this thing and get it under control.

I was surprised we didn't get flagged for the canned music. They need to stop it when the teams break the huddle. Several ties it seemed they were fading it out as the ball was snapped.

Can't agree more- bad idea. If you want to retract that idea you can.

Band sounded and looked good. It seems over the course of a few years that the students don't know the songs the band is playing. There is a disconnect ever since the band moved out of the student section and into the endzone. The SYC and band need to get together and go over a few songs so the students know the words/dance moves. Although the band's performance was great, the overall participation was lackluster.
So I'll possibly add the 2nd worse idea of the week in the AD putting together a "Gameday APP" or "APP Gameday" for fans to download and become engaged. It could range in features from promotions, to parking/ticket info, to showing the words to the alma mater, to incident reporting, food ordering, score updates, donating at the push of a button, notifications on when to get loud and maybe even the live audio broadcast.
Not to hijack the thread, my next bad idea is getting the PA announcer better spotters or him actually learning App's roster. There were a handful of names he got wrong altogether or he'd call the offensive name when we were on D for those who share a number. I know it was the first home game but many things seemed a bit off.

In regards to the BOD's halftime show: why wasn't it shown on the big monitor? They usually do some awesome formations on the field, but anybody that isn't at the top of the tower wasn't able to clearly make out their formations due to the height and pitch of the stands. They always showed the show on the big monitor before, but this year, they just showed a spinning block A graphic the entire time.

Why not put up some microphones at/near the BOD's seating section? I seem to remember Clemson's band always sounded really loud when they played; no way they could generate that much sound in that huge stadium without some amplification.

Took the wife and boys up to the game Saturday. Due to weekend baseball commitments we unfortunately haven't made it up the mountain in a few years. Had a great time and got some pics with some players after the game. I really got a feel for many of the "complaints"/suggestions made on this board. I sometimes run the clock or simply attend most our high school football games. We have a guy who does the in-between play music/sound bytes. Might just be my age but it gets irritating. Felt the same way Saturday. We have a doggone 300 member band and we feel the need to pump in various music bits- like another guy mentioned some are a few seconds long. It's like there just can't be any second of just game or band experience. Agree with many. The video board was great, what 20 years ago? It just looks small and minor league now. Agree about the announcer- better job with names (that was bad).

Not to be a stickler, but the "A" formation (pre-national anthem) looked incredibly sloppy. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me from the copious amounts of beer, but the camera doesn't lie.

Just for the record our regular stadium announcer, Doug Rice was not doing the announcements as he had a "by contract" commitment to be part of the coverage at the Bristol Speedway game on Saturday. He will be back at The Rock this Saturday. That said it is mostly the spotters fault for the incorrect names and of course duplicate numbers of some players.
The band rocked on Saturday!

That was discussed when we moved to the end zone seating. My understanding is that the sound distortion would be almost impossible to fix. If you had the band play a note and then it immediately came out of a speaker on the far side of the stadium everyone would hear the note twice and it would sounds horrible. We normally had microphones for the radio broadcast/TV though.
