Capping student entry into UM game?

Rumor floating around that they're only letting the first 8k students in. Can anyone confirm or deny? Isn't the AD on record saying that every student that wants in is getting in?

No way. IF that were true - and it would be indefensible if it were - don't you think they might announce that ahead of time? You really think they're just going to start turning students away on game day with no previous announcement, when the existing policy is "all students admitted with ID"?

That's what I said when I heard it. Just wanted to post here to make sure. The rumor is gaining traction among the students so there may be a mile long line when the gates open.

Sounds like a trick to get them to their seats (spec to stand on) early.

If this were true, this would really cripple student attendance later in the year. The school really needs to put this to rest and make a statement. This rumor has come up time and time again.

Well if that was true then the ones who get turned away can just wait till the end of the 1st qtr when the first flight of fair weather fans decide to leave. Still get fired up watching our folks leave games early!

If this game had happened 20 years ago when I was a student, our tent would already be set up outside the gate to get a seat right down front.

There has to be a cap set for attendance for safety concerns We have almost 18k undergrad and grad students, there can't be space for all of them. We've put a large part of this expansion on student fees and while I don't think it's fair, I'm sure there is a cap, what it is we may never know.

Every student who wants in this game is getting in. They're adding south end zone SRO and extra bleachers to make sure that happens.

This is just a guess, probably only about half of our students care about football.

I believe in the past average student attendance has been around 10K. For this game it could easily be 11 or 12K.

Are the south end zone bleachers only going to be for Miami?

The south end zone should be standing room only on field level. I'm thinking it will be similar to what we did for GS in 2007 where they had a barrier running across the field just behind the end zone. Official attendance was 28,202 for that game, and we didn't have the 4,400 seats in the upper deck, the 600 club seats, the 18 luxury boxes, or the 2,500 end zone seats we have now. That's close to 8,000 more seats so there is no reason we can't get 35,000+ in KBS this week.
Here is a picture from the game.
