Interesting that they went outside NC and the southeast to pick him up straight out of high school.
Welcome, Matt!

Nice story in the Mebane Enterprise about recent signee Zack Littell of Eastern Alamance:

The High Point Enterprise offers a nicely written piece on new signee Markel Johnson of High Point Westchester:

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Looks like we got a good one here considering his list of schools, and the answers he gave in the interview. Pollard was able to attract guys that performed on the field and in the classroom, and it looks like Coach Jones is picking up right where he left off. Can't wait for February to get here!AppGrad78 wrote:The High Point Enterprise offers a nicely written piece on new signee Markel Johnson of High Point Westchester:

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Choosing us over Alabama, Tennessee and Wake Forest says a lot about how far our program has come. We have several kids coming in that had ACC/SEC offers. Coach Pollard did a great job for us and and I will miss him but I really like what Coach Jones brings as a recruiter. He really seems to relate well to the kids and he has hit the ground running.JTApps1 wrote:Looks like we got a good one here considering his list of schools, and the answers he gave in the interview. The article also mentions that Johnson is a center fielder and lead-off man. With Ty Zupcic and Hector Crespo graduating after this season, we will have voids in both of those spots.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Speaking of Zupcic, look for him to play RF this year with Freshman Jaylin Davis playing Center. Jaylin has more range especially with Tyler coming off the knee injury. Makes for a very fast outfield.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Class is looking good. Hopefully we can get the weekend rotation settled early from LY's mid-week freshmen that looked strong.
Big leadership hole behind the plate to fill is a real concern with young staff.

The Salisbury Post has written an excellent piece on one of our newest signees, OF/P Brian Bauk of Salisbury High School. It's definitely worth your time.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
I saw him in a football playoff game last month and he really showed some athleticism as a QB. Congrats to him and hoping he has a good career at ASU.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Just wanted to let everyone know that the new 2013/2014 Baseball Page is up and running complete with player pages. You can access it the same way as the football and basketball pages. Main Menu-Sports-Baseball-Recruiting-2013/2104 Recruiting. I added the / to the page since the new kids will be here this fall but the season starts in 2014. Easiest way I could think to make the page correct. I'll be doing the same for the next season also.
This has been a long project but hopefully now that the pages are set up it will be easier to just update them instead of having to start from scratch (although 2014 football is kind of crazy now and I think it will remain so from now on). Hope these give you at least a little more information than you had before. Thanks to everyone for their comments and support and we appreciate your patience. Enjoy.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
It appears that we have picked up another pitcher for the 2013? class. I put the ? there because I know that RHP/OF/IF Sean Mason (6' 1" 165) of McNeil High School in Austin, TX has committed to App (see tweet below). Everything I can find on him says he's a 2013 grad so that would put him in this incoming class. But considering where we are in the year I'm not positive. I have contacted him via twitter and will update the baseball pages and threads when I get a reply. I've added a couple of links to beRecruited.com and perfectgame.org below with some of his stats as well as a short video clip. PerfectGame shows him with a 91 mph FB.
Any other updates and I'll let you know.

Love this pickup! This class, as well as last years are setting us up quite nicely for the Sun Belt.

Re: Recruiting, 2013
Mason has been confirmed to be a addition to the 2013/2014 (this coming year's) class. Should help us compensate some for the pitchers that we lost in the draft.firemoose wrote:It appears that we have picked up another pitcher for the 2013? class.
