Went toe to toe with a team that right now is in the NCAA Tournament as an at-large. Almost took the series from Coastal on the road, who is currently ranked No. 8. Won at Louisiana, who is on the bubble.

If we got a little bit better pitching, we could have been an at-large contender IMO.

This is a fun bunch to watch. I am so happy for the team and the coach. They have worked hard.

I know it's not the same but we did a bunch of travel ball and it was always a challenge in those early morning games. I always thought whichever team can wake up the best would have an edge.

Imagine if Tuthill would have been healthy this year. That changes our pitching depth in a big way.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

That and lost Tujestch early on, along with Brooks and Steensma missing a month. That’s baseball though, injuries happen. Those 4 are a key part of our team and we overcame it. Successful season, let’s go win the tournament and punch a bid.

Wonder if the season is staying in Bama or going back to Boone just to turn around and go to Montgomery, which is 40 miles from Troy?

Class is over, so they're not missing any schoolwork.

They could stay down there and do some of the Camellia Bowl week activities. We have experience doing those.

Heard they are staying in Bama. Do not know if true.

On a side note, state of NC has some great baseball teams. Wake, ECU, Campbell and UNC-W all won their conferences...and we have made it to the double elimination segment of our tournament.

The Troy announcers stated that the team wouldn't be returning to Boone and would stay in Alabama.

And UNC Pembroke, coached by a former Mountaineer....

Performances against weaker teams throughout the season killed any chance of an at large bid .I do like our chances Wednesday , for several reasons ,and if we can get by that one with a win we can make things interesting .

Does any team have at least 2 potentially lights out pitchers who could shut down a team in the top 6 for back to back games? You might see a whole bunch of games pitched by bull pens. We will need Hamilton to be on point. A few years back my two boys played high school ball and their team advanced to the eastern finals. At that point it's a best 2 out of 3. The number one (who was subsequently drafted and is in the minors) won his game. The number 2 lost a tough one. We had to throw the number 3 who rarely pitched all year because the team played in a weak conference and the top kid was able to pitch in every big game. Needless to say the other school had a solid third starter and that was it.

In these types of tourneys, the pitchers get used up unless you are lucky and two of them go deep in first two games. I remember ACC final years ago when UNC played Va. Tech. I believe UNC trotted some guy to start that had pitched maybe 10 innings all year.
The, question to me, is whether you take a risk in game 1 and not start you're ace. For us, it is our ace ...and then a big drop off. Some coaches mentality is, if we do not win the first one, then it is a larger uphill battle. Others take the risk so they have ace for 2nd game to face potentially a better team.. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. If we had a better 2nd, maybe consider taking a risk. Given we do not, I would be sending Hamilton out on Wednesday morning.

He’s got to go Wednesday. We don’t have any other options really. Chirico threw Saturday so probably too short rest, same with Wilson. Outside of that, our only other starter is potentially LaSpaluto.

We didn’t see Cross this weekend in 3 close games which might mean he’s not available…

You play to win each game with your best chance for victory. Win the first two and you get a day off.

Congrats to Xander and CJ. Much deserved. I thought there were a couple others who should have been on the list.

No Cross?! Drum, Rodgers, Gillespie, Moronta and Terrell could have arguments as well. All conference in my book!

Surprised Moronta didn't get at least 2nd team honors. Bodine at CCU was Freshman of the Year and Brock hit for a higher average and had more HRs than Cross. A lot of competition at catcher. Cross did lead the league in throwing out base runners but did have more errors than the other two.

Last I heard, Terrell had the highest batting average in conference games. If still true, he definitely should be 1st or 2nd team.
