Maybe we are but I just don't thinks its going to happen. As you have stated there are some rumblings about the S/C that seemed to be getting louder.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 7:56 pmI think we are saying the same thing, but I’m not sure. The sweep this weekend did make me drink a few, but seems like someone finished off a 24 rack. Our pitching has to get better. No one is disputing that.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 7:53 pmSo can everyone else. They get one or two "diamond in the ruff" kinda of prospects the succeed every few years but not consistent enough to be a contender. It's very evident they get the 2nd and 3rd tier pitchers. We will kindly disagree and that's ok. They have had 3 all conference pitcher since 2015 (start of SBC) while boasting the 3rd worst team ERA during that time.311neers wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:30 pmWe’re in a great conference for baseball, and it’s only just getting started. Get a couple more arms and we can be in the top 4-6 consistently. That’s the trick, how do we lure top arms to Boone, NC? Money? Facilities? Playing P5’s? We’ve had some success with pitchers going pro…we could use that as an advantage.Stonewall wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 5:43 pmWe aren’t contenders in the conference. So Missy is so much stronger in every phase. Are they the best ? I hope so but we might find out differently in Horry County. Maybe we steal one there and manage to finish in the top six. Now a question: in what other sport would we consider finishing in the top six an accomplishment?
Take a look at the stats for this year - only 4 pitchers have less than a 6.00 ERA and one of them only has 5 appearances.
Where are they going to get the money? Facilities? They play the first month off the mountain and barley get out to practice.

There's a distinct possibility that they maybe out of the top 9. Now I know things are fresh and i might be overacting but SoALA, TState and GState are only 2 game behind. They have to get 1 in Conway.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:02 pmDepends on the year. Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
We finished 6th the past two seasons and are currently tied for 5th even after the sweep. This years team was set to be our best ever until the injury bug decided to make Smith Stadium it's home this spring. I don't know if we would have been on par with CCU, Troy or USM, but I think we could have been the clear #4 if we'd had just your normal injuries. Can't do anything about it other than keep playing hard.

Should be able to take 4 of the last 6. Stealing one at CCU would be nice.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:10 pmThere's a distinct possibility that they maybe out of the top 9. They are tied for 6th because JMU and Marshall hitters are - thank goodness bad at the plate.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:14 pmWe finished 6th the past two seasons and are currently tied for 5th even after the sweep. I don’t see us celebrating a top six finish in any other sport. Ok maybe other than golf ….

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
That's the difference in this years team vs last years. Last years team beats Queens, Western, Charlotte, GWebb, HPU...etc.
And probably takes 1 or 2 from GaSo and USM.
Last years lineup was unbelievably good. And the defense was top tier.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I think this year's lineup is missing the top end talent, but has more depth through the lineup. We could barely field a team for the GS series and don't forget we lost 2 of 3 to them at home last year.311neers wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:42 amThat's the difference in this years team vs last years. Would have been nice to have Quintero at 3b this year....think he just stopped playing.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:47 amI think this year's lineup is missing the top end talent, but has more depth through the lineup. Zamora, Church and maybe Licht/Figs would be the only guys in the lineup on last years team. Juan and Kam probably could battle for DH.
1-5 last year was bonkers. Boyd, Zamora, ASL, Tolley, Holderbach. Hits galore.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
So in all serious - Was looking at next year. Do they really lose their top 3 pitchers? Cross - Wilson - Steens (early in the season the other site said he's probably not coming back)311neers wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:53 amWould have been nice to have Quintero at 3b this year....think he just stopped playing.JTApps1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:47 amI think this year's lineup is missing the top end talent, but has more depth through the lineup. Gotta believe half the staff won't be back. Better find a few needles in a haystack.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Beat Wake.
Up 1-0 on a Zamora smash.
B2 I believe, nice double play but we also booted a double play. Have to play clean to beat Wake, no mistakes.
Edit- Wake scores from 1st on a Double…should have been out of the inning but E6 on double play.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Pitching well! Boyd strikes out the side. Oblen Beatty and Boyd have kept Wake in check. Time to score some runs! Anyway you can.
3-2 T7, Wake with the lead. But we’ve been threatening.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
We have to find a way to start hitting good pitching. Yes good pitching by definition, is good b/c they don’t give up lots of hits. Our top 5 or six hitters have to come through in these games. So far……. mostly crickets .
