Also, Alex Leach got his medical redshirt for this year and will come back next year as a R-Sophomore.

Re: App vs Citadel
which one? we have 2 guys coming from Illinois that are listed as pitchers haha. i'm kind of excited about the class we have coming in along with the young guys we had get good playing time this year. our OF will be stacked for sure next with Davis, Troutman, Pierson and Zupcic returning and even Dobson could be in the mix there.Robert Norton wrote:Pitchers coming in that are already better than a lot we now have. Kid from Ill. hitting 92-94 according to Billy. Losing Hector and Callaway are the only major hits, well Tyler Moore too. I think our smallcon farewell tour will be very enjoyable.
i'm assuming Head will slide over to SS next year but not sure on who would be at 2B. I think Dobson could also be a good candidate for 3B since he did a good job at 1B and seems to have a good arm

I believe DJ mentioned on the Senior Day radio broadcast that Tyler Moore has been granted a 6th year of eligibility and will be back next year.Robert Norton wrote:Pitchers coming in that are already better than a lot we now have. From GoASU (appears to be 2 redshirt yrs):
2010: Did not appear in any games as he continued to rehabilitate from injury.
2009: Appeared in just one game, tossing one-third of an inning at Wake Forest (Feb. 24) ... missed the rest of the season with a shoulder injury and received a medical redshirt.

Re: App vs Citadel
Holmes was our every day third baseman in 2012, he may reassume that role next season with Head sliding over to SS. Zupcic, Davis and Troutman will likely be the outfield trio with Leach at first and Zumbrook catching.mtnjax wrote:which one? we have 2 guys coming from Illinois that are listed as pitchers haha. i'm kind of excited about the class we have coming in along with the young guys we had get good playing time this year. our OF will be stacked for sure next with Davis, Troutman, Pierson and Zupcic returning and even Dobson could be in the mix there.Robert Norton wrote:Pitchers coming in that are already better than a lot we now have. Second is the big question mark. I believe Pierson was recruited as an infielder, maybe he could handle it? Dobson could be the primary DH and also spell Leach at first or play left field when needed, unless he has a trick up his sleeve and can play second.
In any event, 2014 is shaping up to be a very good year. Lots of talent and experience in the field coming back, as well as every pitcher who started a game this season and two of our top bullpen arms. If the incoming class is as advertised, could be another Regional trip.
We just need to do our part to make the fan support match the quality on the field. I'd love to see some overflow crowds and a little seating expansion before our first SBC season in 2015.

I seem to remember DJ talking about Dobson playing SS in HS after he made some great plays, so maybe he could play 2B next year. Next year will definitely be interesting. I could also see Alex Minton getting some DH looks since he was a fairly touted power hitter coming out of HSasumike83 wrote: Holmes was our every day third baseman in 2012, he may reassume that role next season with Head sliding over to SS. Gonna be a long offseason. I definitely want to make it to Boone next year at least once

I too would like to see the fan support increase tremendously. No reason there shouldn't be 1,000 fans every weekend games

Sounds reasonable for fair weather weekends.Blackandgold wrote:Blackandgold wrote:I too would like to see the fan support increase tremendously. No reason there shouldn't be 1,000 fans every weekend games after march

Can't remember which weekend it was, but it was one of the first sunny warm weekends that we set an attendance record. Sun and warmth will bring the crowdsAppinVA wrote:Sounds reasonable for fair weather weekends.Blackandgold wrote:Blackandgold wrote:I too would like to see the fan support increase tremendously. Re: App vs Citadel
I know the weather in Boone is often a long way from "baseball weather" but I still think our fan support has to get better as we move to the SBC. Obviously, football is the center piece of our athletic department but it is on us to give better support to our other teams.
Basketball, while the attendance is disappointing, is a bit different because the product on the court just has not been consistently better than mediocre in a long while. Baseball, on the other hand, is a consistent winner. 7 straight 30-win seasons, 3 trips to SoCon Semifinals (or further) in the past 4 years and a regular season title/regional appearance in the one season we did not make it past Friday.
Our regular season attendance average was 359. I have not looked up numbers for every one of our new conference peers but in just checking those in the top 50 nationally, look at how we stack up:
Georgia Southern 1,348
Texas State 1,376
South Alabama 1,447
ULM 1,455
ULL 2,171
That is nearly half the conference who draws 4X what we do for baseball. Obviously, the warmer weather in Georgia, Texas, Alabama and Louisiana is a big factor but regardless, we have to step it up. There were just about as many people wearing purple on Senior Day as there were in black and gold. I see no reason we should not be able to average 1,000 fans per game. Promoting it to the students is an important step but the alumni are very important as well. It may be cool, it may even be rainy but there are much worse ways to spend a spring weekend than catching some baseball in Boone.
