Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I can see this topic going from the baseball team to NIL and profit sharing but I’ll ask this probably naive question. How on earth is any profit sharing going to work? Let’s say for the sake of argument that App State scrapes together $2m “extra” revenue to shell out to our athletes. How much is the 4th string freshman quarterback who most likely won’t ever see anything but the scout team going to get paid? How about the starting quarterback? Is there going to be some sort of paid salary cap management team who will have to decide how to split up the pie (assuming we have $2m to dole out)? Will payments be determined or will there be painful negotiations with parents, players and agents?
As far as baseball goes do we really expect that our level of players will suddenly escalate with a relatively small pile of cash? I have zero idea so I’m just asking. Some here seem to think that our shortfalls can all be eliminated with money to players. Obviously if we suddenly tapped an oil well we could go buy 4 stud 98 MPH throwing pitchers but even then are we beating out the college baseball blue bloods?

I got what you are saying! Sometimes it takes me awhile to read between the lines.Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 8:49 pmTo clarify, G5 programs with few exceptions, have athletes that can sell their name , image and likeness, for a significant amount of money. Outside of a cheeseburger at the Cardinal I can’t think of an example where any of our athletes made a buck by endorsing a product or business. They have and are being paid currently by funds contributed to “ collectives” under the guise of name , image and likeness but they aren’t making Chevy commercials. Point being “ NIL” isn’t really “NIL” . Going forward the school anticipates paying athletes directly from a pool of money generated by revenue brought in through sales and contributions. As I understand it , the collectives , if they continue to exist, will make contributions to the revenue pool from which the players will be paid. Any endorsements will fall outside of purview of the University. The target is to have $2,000,000 in payroll. You are correct in that it is not up and running in the current athletic year which ends next month. However my comments are regarding things going forward. I suspect and would hope that money garnered by the particular sports due to their own fundraising efforts would be credited back to them. As to the overall distribution of revenue sharing between our sports , I believe you to also be correct. Again , hence the need for them to fund raise for their teams.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 6:31 pmCorrect there will be revenue sharing but that's based of how much the AD brings in (ticket sales/concessions/etc.) and the players get a percentage which is determined by the school. He still needed to raise $ for NIL this year
Many school are focusing on FB and the BB's while the rest of the sports are getting a small percentage.
I'm willing to say there wii be very little money from RS going to baseball. Now he does need to find a way to increase NIL which is up to him and school.
Revenue sharing doesn't start till 7/25

I hope not on pay for play for players. Those funds should be used to support academic efforts and preferable in the PreK-12 grades.

I believe it will go into athletic department budgets as an operating or debt service revenue source. However it is yet to be determined as the legislation has not yet been approved. Again, subject to change.

Not a NC resident, but I did notice that the House and Senate bills have different amounts with the House bill treating all FBS programs equally while Senate bill heavily favors UNC and State.

ODU shows what a little bit of pitching can do. And yes , timely hitting.

Kermit having to fundraise as well as recruit and address the challenges from this past season? That is a tough row to hoe…especially since App doesn’t have a super strong baseball tradition/fanbase like other G5’s (Coastal, ECU, etc.)

I mean - that's all part of the job. Again, a lot of moving parts this offseason. Let it play out for a couple weeks.

Kermit is very good at it too, but we still lag far behind most of the conference in budget and facilities.
