Re: Baseball at NCSU 3/4
We ran into a buzzsaw last night and his name was Tommy Dejuneas. He tossed a perfect final 3.1 innings. He has not been hit this season in 7.1 IP this year and has thirteen strikeouts compared to one walk.

True but we were up 4-3 middle of the 7th. We have lost the lead quite a few times in 2014 and 2015 in the last three innings.bigCasu wrote:We ran into a buzzsaw last night and his name was Tommy Dejuneas. I'd be interested to know how many games we lost the lead 7th inning or later vs. how many games we've won after trailing through 6.

Re: Baseball at NCSU 3/4
I've been as critical of the late-game collapses as anyone. However, I would like to defend Billy here.
I drove up for the game yesterday and stayed through the sixth. We were up 4-3 at that point and with the exception of the bottom of the first, we were the better team. We got guys on every inning, and usually the lead off. State used their pitchers until we ran them. They used pitchers like they really needed the win. We used our pitching like we were focused on conference play and getting guys time on the mound. Only Howell struggled and that was partly because his fielders played tight including one error.
I want to win every game as much as anyone and this one would've been sexy. But my point here is to say that we have lots to look forward to and I think we're going to be really strong going forward. Our guys are young but mature, and really talented. They're solid defensively, overall. Pitching is okay but sporadic. We were the better team last night for 6.5 innings on the road against a team that played in Omaha just two years ago. The future is bright- maybe even this season.

If we take 2 of 3 from GS, I'll ease up on how we closed last night.
Those games vs. middle of the pack ACC teams are important for us and the SBC.

The pitcher who allowed the losing runs was DeVrieze, who is a weekend starter, who came out of the bullpen.App91 wrote:Looks like if you can get to our Bull pen, you beat us.

No power arms to anchor the bullpen. Not really any power arms in the rotation either. I think brill has some velocity, but he hasn't thrown it particularly well so far.Saint3333 wrote:True but we were up 4-3 middle of the 7th. From the start of 2014 season we have lost 16 games which we were tied or led after the sixth inning, while only winning 5 games which were tied or trailing after six innings.
Let's hope that trend ends soon.

Guess that shows why he is a starter and not in the BPT-Dog wrote:The pitcher who allowed the losing runs was DeVrieze, who is a weekend starter, who came out of the bullpen.App91 wrote:Looks like if you can get to our Bull pen, you beat us.

In the previous 8 games the bullpen pitched 37.1 innings giving up 10 earned runs. That equals an ERA of just 2.43 which is pretty good especially considering how many different pitchers we've put on the mound.

Which raises a whole other set of questions...T-Dog wrote:The pitcher who allowed the losing runs was DeVrieze, who is a weekend starter, who came out of the bullpen.App91 wrote:Looks like if you can get to our Bull pen, you beat us.

Re: Baseball at NCSU 3/4
Was just looking over season stats. To date we have played 11 games. In those games we have a total of 14 wild pitches/passed balls. That is insanely high. I seem to recall this occuring at a high rate last year as well.
Another telling stat, our pitchers have walked 53 batters this year compared to our guys only reaching base on balls 33 times. A -20 differential.
This is the difference between us being .500 and being a great ball team. Hopefully as the year progresses both of these stats decline and we start to see positive results in the W column. No better time than at the Stink to get things pointed in the right direction.
