We better figure it out quickly. The schedule only gets harder after this weekend.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I'm gonna get grief for this. The baseball team has never been a world beater. 2 years ago they were 5 games over .500 - last year was an amazing year without adequate pitching. Maybe this is the peak. Every couple of years they make a good run and embrace it. We know they can reload for the most part on offense but will be hard to consistenly be a contender without the pitching.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I don’t think you’ll get grief for that! The past couple years we have punched above our weight along with the 2020 covid year. But, as a University/Athletic department or fan base…have we even cared about baseball until about right now (same with basketball)? There was zero money and the facilities were just meh. In my eyes, we’ve seen the floor for baseball (Billy Jones years) iffy facilities and no hype. Now, at least we have some eyes on the program, improved facilities (and future expansion plans) along with a few good years to show recruits. Bad luck and timing for Steensma to go down. He was honestly worth a few wins by himself and we might not even be having this conversation this early in the year haha.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:10 amI'm gonna get grief for this. Our best hope is that the NCAA pushes the season start back to March 1. That would solve a lot of issues for cold weather teams and even early season games everywhere.
NC State is 3-6 and have lost 5 in a row…it happens.

Not App related but what a wild scene in Gainesville last night between Stetson and FU.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I need to go rewatch that. I saw the fuss about it. Do you have the link for that story/video?
Is that a conference related decision or the home schools decision to use a 2nd bag?
I haven’t seen us play with a 2nd bag yet, or maybe we have.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I had not heard the March 1 proposal. Is that in the works?311neers wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:58 amI don’t think you’ll get grief for that! I've seen that GaSo has the 2nd bag, so I tend to think we may have it also, but I don't know.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
The school needs to decide if it's going to get serious about baseball because most of the teams in the SBC take it very seriously. We lack critical facilities, have a low budget, and zero NIL to offer. That's not how the top 10 programs in the league operate. Our weather will always be an issue be we can compete if given a somewhat level playing field. This staff knows how to win, and they love being at App. It's time they're given the proper resources.311neers wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:58 amI don’t think you’ll get grief for that! Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
I don’t think they have formally met about it, but I do know some coaches and conferences have been pushing for it or mentioning a delayed start. Wishful thinking on my part! Marshall coach was pushing for it after opening weekend. https://x.com/bealsy9/status/1892430602 ... Aa4ptC5l-A
Somehow need to get Greg Sankey on board, SEC might have to lead that charge.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Just back it up 2 weeks. Not a full month.
March 1 start.
End of May finish reg season (Memorial Day is a baseball haven)
June is postseason (conf tourneys, travel, rest, regionals, supers…)
End of June-July 4th CWS would be awesome (July 4 and baseball just make sense)
Can still squeeze the MLB draft in with no issues to not effect the MLB and kids getting drafted.

Runner was called out for touching the white part of the first base bag.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
Not to be a stickler because I like the idea of the CWS ending on the holiday weekend, but the calendar year ends on June 30th which might be an issue to work through.311neers wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:35 amJust back it up 2 weeks. Not a full month.

Louisiana has them too so it might be conference wide.BUTCH1991 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:26 amI've seen that GaSo has the 2nd bag, so I tend to think we may have it also, but I don't know.

More resources for baseball? Great idea. Unfortunately, the budget is going to get tighter with “ revenue sharing “.

Re: 2025 Baseball Mega Thread
That’s a shame.
We should be pouring into baseball as 20-35% (3-5 teams) of the conference makes the postseason every year.
Baksetball and football are less than 1.4% chance to make postseason (bowls excluded)

Now that stinks. Clearly beat the throw, but I guess didnt touch the orange second bag.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:42 amRunner was called out for touching the white part of the first base bag.

Trained your whole life to hit the white bag, and now they want you to hit the orange one. That’s tough and I’m sure won’t be the last time it happens on a bang bang play, even though this wasn’t even bang bang.
Watch someone hit a home run and touch the wrong bag and it get called back…
