No he shouldn't. He threw over 120 pitches on Friday. WF has zero meaning to where our season goes...our only route to post season is win conference tourney....spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 9:40 pmOur Friday pitcher should be able to start Tuesday and start again Sunday. That should not be a problem for damaging his arm. I will be very disappointed if we don't throw a weekend starter against Wake. It is doable.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
This is the best App Baseball has been since 2013, the year after the regionals appearance (won 30 games, finished 4th in the SoCon). Haven't had a winning record in a decade.
And the suggestion of throwing the Friday starter on Tuesday vs Wake is complete nonsense.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
We're as close to reaching that level now as we have been in a decade. Billy Jones did more damage to this program than most will ever fully know. Kermit and his staff have been slowly rebuilding the program back to where it was under Pollard all while playing tougher competition with tons more resources. Here is a list of our RPI's starting with the last two years of Jones through today.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 9:16 am16 and 23: the number of baseball programs in North Carolina and contiguous states in the top 50 and 100 RPI respectively; Which includes Wofford, Charlotte, Coastal, Georgia Southern, Campbell, ECU, William and Mary, and Mercer. Add to that the laundry list of ACC and SEC programs tearing it up right now.
Top 50/100 RPI’s are being achieved by programs big and small, high altitude and low, cold springs and warm springs, in beautiful locals andholes (Charlotte/GS), by schools with far less resources than App has. It CAN be achieved in Boone also. App sits at 106 today.
Why not at App? Dare to dream.

So my question to you is, do you really think the best move for the program is to make a coaching change when it's clear Kermit has the program heading in the right direction? we've been in the top 100 much of the year, and could easily get back there with a good finish this year.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
One thing I'll add is that we should be past the point of blaming Jones. Yes he was a terrible coach that undid all the good work Pollard did and put his successor in a big hole.
However, Kermit's been the coach for seven seasons. This is 100% on him now.

College is a lot different than pro ball. It’s not as simple as it may seem. Also weekend series are what matter so you want to have your best on Friday night.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 9:40 pmOur Friday pitcher should be able to start Tuesday and start again Sunday. Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
As we have seen this year with the pitching staff, we need Hamilton pitching on Fridays. His outings set the table for the bullpen use over the next two days. If he’s on, we don’t need a lot of arms on Friday.

I would pitch him Tuesday and Sunday. I would try to win all four games. 5 days between outings should be plenty.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
That is only 4 rest days between outings. We also play Wake on Wednesday this week so that makes even less sense. Starters need a minimum of 5 rest days between outings.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 12:41 pmI would pitch him Tuesday and Sunday. Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
I brought Jones up more to explain why we had a leveling off period after a first year jump. The staff made the decision to honor scholarships for a number of players Jones brought in that weren't the caliber of players we needed on the field. That limited recruiting for a few years, but they didn't want to force guys out that were playing hard and representing the program well.

The only things I know about baseball is I suck at it and I don't know a ton about it. But, I do know this is a terrible idea.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 12:41 pmI would pitch him Tuesday and Sunday. I would try to win all four games. 5 days between outings should be plenty.

Unfortunately it is true. The team nor the player had any intents for the news to be revealed yet or as it was.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
Spit balling here because I don't have a clue how MLB scouting works, but I know with football, a lot of times they hold out the injury information if the player is getting looks at the next level. Scouts will still come if word of the injury hasn't reached them. And a lot of times, since the player they were there to see isn't playing, they are extra attentive to other players that are lower on their radar.

You are right, they do. I was asking because several people were posting we should shock the world and beat Wake Tuesday in the game at Shelby.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
Last year I absolutely called for his job. He simply was not getting it done. I stated many times that I like Kermit and wanted him to be successful at App because I want App baseball to be successful. I hope he can sustain this clip and stick around long enough to get back on the plus side of .500 here. We also don’t need to be extending coaches for one good season (if that’s all this turns out to be).JTApps1 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 11:24 amWe're as close to reaching that level now as we have been in a decade. The team is 19-18 today. Assuming a .500 record or near it holds I think it grants him 1 more year to prove if it’s a blip or the new norm.
