Would you all be on board if had football uniforms that color? Looks like a dark smokey grey.

Baseball teams at all levels have a long history of wearing home whites and road grays. I like our tip of the hat to more than 150 years of tradition.

That gun metal gray is new age...I prefer the traditional gray, but like the elegantly simple look of these.

Re: New uni's
Sharpest best looking baseball uniforms I have ever seen in my life!!!!
I just don't like the cap that is presented with the white uni.....Would prefer an all white cap with black bill......The one in picture looks too 70ish or truck stop.

So happy we have the deal with Nike. I know it's still in place through 2022, but when the time comes I hope we stick with Nike. Much better designs IMO.

I had a baseball coach growing up that always told us,HeffnerIV wrote:The uni's are great, but I hate the "play good" part of that slogan.
"when someone asks you how things are, you should never respond good/ok/well... it should always be Great. It lifts everyone's moral around you and also sets your mindset to greatness....getting your mind right is half of what it takes to be great. Never settle for just good."
Has stuck with me all these years later and I still try my best to live by those words of wisdom.

Trivia question: Why do baseball players wear stirrups for socks? What useful purpose do they serve?

Re: New uni's
In today's game I thought it was more of a fashion thing. I'm sure when introduced to the game they served a good purpose.AppGrad78 wrote:Trivia question: Why do baseball players wear stirrups for socks? What useful purpose do they serve?

Re: New uni's
I don't know that they serve a purpose other than decorative/team colors. Guessing they were cheaper than fully colored socks. Would allow teams/players to buy multiple white socks to swap out and just put on the stirrups over them. My son's team wears solid color socks when they wear knickers. He hates the way stirrups feel in his shoe.AppGrad78 wrote:Trivia question: Why do baseball players wear stirrups for socks? What useful purpose do they serve?

Re: New uni's
Back in the day, the dye that was used to color socks could cause blood poisoning if a player got cleated and it got into the cut. Because of this, players started wearing a white sock (sanitary) under the colored sock to have a layer between the dye and their skin. The stirrup was created because it was difficult to fit 2 pairs of socks into a cleat. I think in today's game it's more of a fashion statement than anything else as, obviously, dyes have been created that won't poison you.AppGrad78 wrote:Trivia question: Why do baseball players wear stirrups for socks? That being said, I think those white uniforms would look great with stirrups. Black stirrup with gold/white stripes.
Also, I would LOVE it if the football team got on board with the smoky gray uniform. Tennesee's smoky grays look great!

Re: New uni's
SlappyAppy72 is correct.
In the 1800s, many teams were identified by the color of their socks ... think Red Sox, White Sox and Red Stockings. The way I heard it, the dyes in those days irritated skin, especially during moist, hot conditions. Consequently, players began to cut the socks into stirrups so they could show their colors without breaking into a rash. The custom continued even after dyes improved.
