Is money enough? Probably. Question is what does another year do? Could improve or could get hurt. Take it while you can and go back to school later.

Just FYI we probably lost another pitcher that was coming in this fall.

RHP Mark Potter (6' 6" 273) of College of Central Florida (JUCO) in Ocala, FL

I would say that coming back for a senior year would not help improve his draft position. In actuality, it would probably hurt it due to the loss of leverage. I have a friend whose son recently went through the process and he gave me some insight into the difference between a junior being drafted versus a senior. His son went to college and starte day 1 at shortstop for a D1 school. He was drafted in the mid teens his junior year. The money that he was offered was decent but not great. He came back for his senior year, put up the same numbers and then was drafted in the late 20s. He was fortunate in that he got his degree after his junior year and was able to get his masters while playing ball. What I took out of the whole thing is that when drafting players from rd 10 and on is less about get the best player and picking the guy that the team thinks they can sign and at what price. There are a lot of negotiations going on in the process.

Kermit seems like the kind of coach who will tell his guys to take the money while they can. He did it with Seagle, who was a late-round pick.

I’m happy for the kids that have the opportunity to chase their dream.Of course a good mentor encourages it. The other side of this coin, however , is the need to soon see improvement in our program, reflected in the won-loss column.Baseball , in my opinion is harder to rebuild than basketball, you need more quality talent and even at our current level our better players can get inticed away.We are about half way into seeing what we have in the current staff.I reman optimistic.
