App BB @ NC Central Eagles, Wed., Durham "The DAP"
Perhaps a dozen or so (who's countin'?) got in a reference to "the sky is falling/or has fallen" in reference to the UTK series in "that" already infamous thread pitting App fan against fellow App fan in an insult spitting contest. I, for one, hope that's over. One of those per season is one too many, IMHO.
On the other hand, by almost all forecasts of the NWS, the sky is actually going to fall tonight and tomorrow--making it a real loooong shot to get in any baseball at NC Central tomorrow. The iggles, BTW, are 2-1 on the season--taking the rubber game in a three-game series over Canisius while scoring 18 runs in the series while surrendering 11 to the visitors from Buffalo, NY.

Just for historical perspective, we split games with NCCU last year, winning 6-0 in Durham and losing 6-7 in Boone.
I hope we're able to get the game is but the weather does put that in question.

Yeah, I know about NCCU and last season. It's a little amusing that we complain about our cold weather baseball disadvantages--then we read all about baseball at Canisius and at UBuffalo. Who knew one could practice or play actual organized outdoor baseball anywhere within 300 miles of Lake Erie before May?

I try to keep tabs on the Metro Atlantic. Niagara, for instance, plays their first 19 baseball games on the road this season. Their first home game isn't until March 30th. Hard to fathom, but that's life up that way. Niagara has fielded a baseball team since 1885. They luv their b-ball. Gotta love that kind of grit.
One of their baseball alums was manager of the NY Yankees from 1931 until 1946. Joe McCarthy won eight American League titles and seven World Series with his "Bronx Bombers" during that era. Not too shabby. Connie Mack's son played at Niagara.
OK, trivia kick is over for a while.

Calvin Murphy, free throw shooter extraordinaire, played his collegiate hoops at Niagara. Different sport but still the same school.

Back around 1970 I saw him in the NCAA tournament , against NC State,in a consolation game. That's the year NCSU beat South Carolina something like 5 to 3 in the ACC final.Bobby Cremins ,Roche,Riker,Owens and Ribock against Van Williford. All of which is way more than you wanted to know.Arsenal App wrote: ↑Tue Feb 19, 2019 5:55 pmCalvin Murphy, free throw shooter extraordinaire, played his collegiate hoops at Niagara.
