This hasn't been officially announced yet, but it's apparently the real deal.

Instead of double elimination, the Sun Belt Baseball Tournament will move to a round-robin format, similar to what the ACC and other leagues have done.

Here's the skinny.

-Tournament is May 19-24 in Montgomery, Alabama at the minor league park there.
-Two pools of 4 teams each. Pool A is seeds 1, 4, 5 and 8. Pool B is seeds 2, 3, 6, 7.
-No play-in games. Seeds 9-12 are done.
-Everyone plays three games from Tuesday through Friday against the teams in their pool, so everyone gets one off day.
-Game times are 11:30, 4:00 and 8:30 p.m. each day (Eastern), so 12 games in total.
-Top two records in each group advance to the semfinals.
-If two or more teams are tied after pool play, the tiebreaker is higher seed, incentivizing the regular season somewhat.
-A1 vs B2 and B1 vs A2, at 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Finals on Sunday between the two winners.
-Max of five games and unless there's weather, no one will play two games in the same day.

Whaddaya think? You can go to Montgomery for four days at least and see your team play three games, which should help attendance.

Love it. Huge improvement.
  • Three guaranteed games
  • Five games maximum
  • Reasonable and realistic start times
  • Less likely to wear out pitching staffs
  • Greater emphasis on regular-season
