2020 Baseball Mega Thread

We tried a running baseball thread last year (rather than sporadic individual game threads) and it worked...I say we try it again. Just a reminder of how this works, you don't need to post a new thread for each game, just add to this one.

Baseball starts tomorrow 2/14 with a Friday, Saturday, Sunday series at Gardner Webb. The Bulldogs went 25-26 in 2019. Our Mountaineers improved in 2019 but went 22-31 losing 7 or our last 8.

Notable series:

2/21 - 23 @ Kentucky
2/26 - @ Wake Forest
3/31 - vs South Carolina (Charlotte)
4/15 - vs Wake Forest
5/12 - vs North Carolina

PS Who scheduled us on a 15 game road trip to start the season? Sure it's cold in Boone in February but we've got games all over NC, SC, and KY to start the season.

I saw that. Being a former college baseball player from the north it reminded me of our schedule. We would spend the first 3 weeks on the road. I am excited and cautiously optimistic about the season. I am going to see the in Charlotte.

It will be interesting to see how we start, given the mild winter we are having. Hopefully, we are further along than usual. While everyone else has had a mild winter, the warmer conditions mean more to us than those in the flatlands.

I just hope the program can keep improving. That opening road trip is not ideal but I understand the reasoning....sort of.....
Go Apps!!

Rough 4th inning as Tuthill gets knocked out of the game. Down 4-0 in the 5th.

Painful . Nothing good to report. Very ugly performance.

Year four, starting out lethargic. It's just game one, hopefully improvement on the way.

We played especially well the last couple of innings. Still a huge fan! Go App! Go Apps! Whichever you prefer.

I liked what i saw from the young guys after Tuthill, and i still like Tuthill as well. Looking forward to seeing how they bounce back today.

Coach Smith said after the game, "We can't wait for tomorrow", that sounds encouraging. No doubt we're looking for a better outcome this time, stand-by.

Bullpen gives up two run in the bottom of the 7th allowing GW to tie the score at 3-3.

Apps up 4-3 going into the B8. With men on 1st and 2nd and one out, Drumheller hits ball to right center scoring the runner from second. The runner on first tried to score and was out by three feet. Next batter flies out to deep right. Would have been the second out of the inning and the runner would likely have scored to make it 5-3. Doesn't seem to have been a smart play on our part.

Gotta hope for extras in this one!

Also, I'm a big fan of the new black uniforms for this season featuring the new athletic typeface.

Apps give up 3 consecutive hits to lose the game in the bottom of the 9th on a walkoff single.
Ouch.

Bullpen gave up 4 runs in the last 4 innings. Can't have someone come in, face three batters and walk all three.

Definitely not the way to start a new season off by struggling against a Big South team, need to see a lot of improvement before conference play.
