Meteoric rise for a 34th rounder a month ago! Way to go Hector!

Awesome feat. But just for information purposes, he's filling in for another guy that got called up since Jeter went back on 15 day DL. This will only be temporary. Nonetheless, congrats Hecky

There are 13-14 other guys who didn't get the call.

That's true. But a late draft pick, playing in short season A ball, hitting under .300, doesn't get called up to stay a month into pro career. Like I said, congrats to him on accomplishment. I hope it's a long term stay, but I think it'll be short stay just filling in for an injury. Great experience for him though

temp or not, they would not have call him up if they did not see something they really like, if he stays or goes back really isnt important, getting called up this soon is really good

Clearly they like him or they wouldn't have drafted him

Plus, Jeter is 39 and has played 6 innings this season. I'm not betting on him being back in 15 days.
Lots of other established guys in the Yankees system that did not get the call. Great accomplishment.

Hope he enjoys playing with A-fraud
but in all seriousness, congrats to him. it is a huge thing for him to get called up to AAA from the NY-Penn League (rookie level) regardless of the reasoning behind it.

not necessarly, my brother was drafted by Detroit in the mid 90's told him upfront, they didn't think he was good enough to make the majors and he was probably going to be a career minor leaguer. Four years later he proved them wrong and was in the Tiger's starting rotation, had a 13 year MLB career, so yes, it does happen player chosen in the late rounds, are not given much of a chance by the team that drafted them, they just prove them wrong.

I take it that your brother is Brian. I saw him pitch in high school a couple of time. He was unhittable back in high school and that's the key. Scouts make decisions based of what they see as potential, but no one knows how they will do until they face live hitters on a given level.
