Most kids with the ability to play D-I college baseball make awesome high school pitchers. Only the best of the best stick with that position in college.

Got it. Kind of like recruiting the QBs?

With all due respect if we recruit enough pitchers maybe we can have a few good closers and middle relief guys we can count on

Then you'll love the last two known commits. Both are shown as pitchers also. And RHP Stephen Schoch (6′ 4″ 220) of Our Lady Of Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD has signed his NLI today so that now leaves only one known commit to sign.

Coach-As has already been said many HS players pull double duty. I tried to list them as their profiles showed them and also, if they had a different position listed first, then I did the same (ie 1B/RHP). We had several Fr in last years class that were listed at multiple positions including pitchers. Coach Jones talked about the fact that he had some who were primary pitchers in high school playing in the field, and some of those would be added to the rotation this season. Guess we'll do the same with this class unless one just blows them away.

And yes, as 94 said, it's a good correlation. If they listed Baseball players as athletes then that would be a better way to list them. They just don't say that.

thanks for the information. The games I did go to at UVA when we were in the playoffs were great. I have been to many minor league games and literally hundreds of major league games. None more enjoyable than the ASU games I took in. Much more enjoyable than MLB in my mind. Again thanks to you guys for the information.

Two more updates: Our last commit (until today), SS/RHP Breydan Gorham (6′ 1″ 165) of Western Alamance High School in Burlington, NC signed his LOI on Nov 14th. I thought I had moved him to the Commits section but realized I hadn't. That was all our commits from the Class of 2015 until today.

From his twitter C/RHP Trader Flora (6′ 3″ 195) of Topsail High School in Hampstead, NC has committed to App. I have linked his MaxPreps profile below and added him the the Commits section of the Main Page. The early signing period ended on the 19th so he can sign his LOI when the regular period begins on April 15th.

Trader Flora @The_Big_Germ
Verbally committed to play baseball at Appalachian State University

From twitter and internet reports we've added three more commits to the Class of 2015. First up:

OF/IF Zach Santoro (6' 0" 190) of Clinton Massie High School in Clarksville, OH. Listed below are his Prep Baseball report profile (note the Commitment Section) and a youtube clip. I'll add him and the others to the Main Page this week. From a twitter search it appears he had committed to Lake Erie College back in March but another post three days ago indicates he is now committed to App.

Next. From internet reports IF Will Herman (6' 2" 185) of St Pius X Catholic School in Dunwoody, GA has committed to App. Listed below is his Perfect Game profile which includes several video clips. Appears he's already here and his twitter is showing App class of 2019. Another to welcome to the Mountaineer Family.

Finally here's the one I'm still checking on. Not a question as if he's here or not but how many years of eligibility he has remaining. Last listing at NC State is as a Sophomore. Was also listed on the FD Tech page as a So. Graduated in 2013. I've also found listings at both Davie and Forsyth Country Day as far as high school goes.

They haven't updated the roster on appstatesports yet so I'm going to ride this one out a bit and see what shows.

IF Matt Vernon (6' 2" 195) of Davie County High School/NC State/Florence-Darlington Tech.

I'd have to go back and look a little more but I'm thinking at least 6 to 7 of the newer guys, with Vernon included, and around 10 or so since 2012. I've seen them on profiles enough that I have their homepage bookmarked for quick reference.
