Game got scheduled over the weekend to make up the lost Canisius game.

Connor Leonard scored two in the first with an RBI double. However in the bottom half, starting pitcher Blake Burkett came unraveled. 3 walks, aided by an error, a wild pitch and passed ball sent him to the dugout. Luke Watts came in and has given up a RBI single and another wild pitch before getting out of the inning. 3-2 Asheville after one.

Three-rune homer for Asheville makes it 6-2 in the bottom third.

Has Burkett ever done anything? All I ever remember the kid doing is walking the park and getting lit up like a pinball machine.

He pitched decently at Tennnessee last year. But now in his last seven starts has hasn't recorded a full inning. For him, when it rains it doesn't just pout, it monsoons and drowns everything.

6-3 now after Hummel, who was brought on in the second after Hamel had a bad defensive first inning, got an RBI single. Middle 4th. Funny thing was that Hamel was brought in to bring some offense into the lineup.

Just took a look at SBC stats:

App State is...
9th in batting average
8th in ERA
5th in fielding %
9th in on base %
9th in runs
6th in hits
1st in HRs
10th in walks (we have walked less than anyone in the SBC)
10th in walks allowed (we have given up more walks than anyone)
2nd in wild pitches
4th in hit batters
3rd in passed balls

Not hard to figure out why we are where we are at the moment.

We have out hit UNCA 7-3 but trail 6-3.

UNCA got 4 in the bottom fifth and Atwood got a two-run homer in the top sixth. Now 10-5 UNCA in the bottom sixth.

If an unscheduled game against an at best average Big South team arises again wonder if we could at least be a little competitive. Wonder if Avery High has an opening sometime next week?
