at Arkansas State series

Unread post by T-Dog » Fri Apr 24, 2015 5:43 pm

Game tonight postponed due to severe weather. Saturday will have a day-night doubleheader at 2 pm ET and then 7 pm ET. The latter of which will be on ESPN3.com. Apparently the wind blows in at Arkansas State and is expected to be windy Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday's matinee will be a Noon, not 2 pm as originally scheduled due to the App team having a flight to catch out of Memphis.

Starting pitchers are Thurber, Holden and Springs in that order.

Cool thing for the team is that they were on the same Charlotte-to-Memphis flight as DeAnglo Williams on Thursday.

And Mr. Williams now also plays for the black and gold! If the team can play with the toughness and skill of the Steelers, we'll be fine.

Won game two - 6-3, for a moment there (bottom of the 9th) it looked like App was going to give another one away. However, things turned out better this time. Need to take game three tomorrow to avoid last place standing.

Biggest thing this team needs next year is a team psychologist. People that have not played baseball have no idea how the late inning woes weigh on a teams mind. It is something that takes time to overcome. The talent is here on this team. The team is short one weekend starter and a few bullpen arms.

Lets get the series win today.

Walk off wild pitch on an intentional walk to lose the game.

Here's the crazy part. The game had a soft curfew of 2:45 pm ET due to App's flight out of Memphis. So if App had gotten out of the 9th, the game would be over and the result a tie.

maybe we should've tried to hit the batter rather than intentional walk.

why do intentional walk pitches have to be to the outside anyway? good excuse to throw some chin music

Here's an interesting, but meaningless stat. Billy Jones (as of today's last game at A-State) is a bad 64-89 so far into his third season as our head coach. That translates into a winning percentage of .350 and falling like a rock. Billy's program is waaaay upside-down.

For comparison, Appalachian's overall winning percentage from 1955 (since complete records have been maintained) until the present is .510.

The bad news is that Billy can't afford to resign, no matter how deflated he is or how hard it has become for him to drive to work each day; and Appalachian can't afford to buy out his contract. Catch 22! Billy and ASU are stuck with each other.

The good news, you ask? I count only 9 games remaining on the schedule.

Maybe someone knows the answer to this question. I can find no 2015 Baseball Media Guide. Did Cobb use the funds for the baseball media guide (and other things) for the salary increases his minions received?

Women's softball certainly got one. http://www.appstatesports.com/ViewArtic ... =209893647

I can't find one either. A quick scan found one for the other 19 sports for 2014-15, but not for baseball.

Fear not, we know the promotions for the game though, which we all know is more important.

Can't remember 66 if you had said you had ever coached, I know you played sports - but, I'm telling you, the day a coach finds he dreads going to work is the day he should move onto another profession - I don't know Coach Jones but I would bet 100% he is always looking forward to the next day with his team - He would never have made it to this level without that drive!!! ---
