Team Batting Average

Unread post by AppDawg » Mon Mar 21, 2016 8:28 pm

As if things couldn't get worse...

20 games into the season BJ's Diamond Apps find themselves ranked a whopping #293 out of #295 division I teams with a team batting average of .202!

The lack of wins is not just on the freshman pitchers. A total team (BJ) effort.

Wow, an entire team near the Mendoza line. Sad

I have two young sons who play a lot of baseball. If by chance they (in about 6 years) are still playing at a high level and can get at least some type of college aid my wife and I will be ecstatic. We realize that by that time we will still not recoup what we are paying in terms of travel ball fees, lessons and equipment. All that aside we love it, support it and often financially sacrifice in order for them to play. I have heard that only a small percentage of young men actually receive much in the way of scholarship money to play baseball. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I see many boys from our area who go to play at small schools and community college programs. Is App simply behind the 8 ball as it relates to baseball? Several folks have speculated on other threads that weather and climate in Boone might make a difference with recruiting. I have been around this game a long time and know how hard it is to play. I tell my boys all the time that succeeding 3 out of 10 times will get you in the Hall of Fame.

Weather is just an excuse. Pollard proved that we can win, and win consistently on the Mountain. It has everything to do with coaching and building a solid foundation that success can be built upon.

See what Satterfield has done with the Football program and what Fox is doing with basketball.

BJ is running kids off and flying by the seat of his pants.

Lose today at home against UNC-Asheville by the score of 3-8. This is the same UNC-Asheville that App defeated 8-0 two weeks ago, improvement?

When Pollard left he took a damn good recruiter with him.

Ironic that BJ has made a career out of being the lead recruiter at the upper echelons of D1 baseball.

Recruiting isn't the problem. It's developing the players when they're here. The team today looked awful in the field, like they haven't adequately prepared for live ball. Two errors directly led to four runs. We ran a safety squeeze today that failed because they showed bunt on the first pitch and then the exact same bunt on the second pitch, which was fielded easily by the 1B.

I have to agree with this.

I'll always support the players but it is painfully clear they are not enjoying playing this amazing sport that they all love.

Leadership seems to be lacking.
