Reports out of Columbia say the App job is his if we can find the money to pay him.

If we can find the money, I think it's a no-brainer.
I could see it taking at least an additional $25k to pay him compared to what we just got done paying BJ.

I'd say that's a false report out of Columbia. I don't even know if they've done interviews yet??? Usually give people a couple weeks to get resumes in.
Under "normal circumstances" (whatever that means anymore), I'd agree with you. These circumstances aren't normal. We're needful of taking enough time to get it right; and we're about equally needful of being in a hurry to avoid damaging roster attrition. The vacancy was posted to the NCAA Job Market on June 7th with the following disclaimer replacing an application deadline.
"Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until job is filled."

In a world seemingly gone mad, D.Gillin announced Jonathan Reeder's appointment to co-chair the baseball search committee on May 31st and it was only a week or so later that ASU HR advertised a vacancy in the job Reeder currently holds--with the same open until filled disclaimer.
Obviously, a lot of stuff is going on off-stage. Who knows, maybe the Esposito story has legs. What does it all mean?

If what is being posted is true, that Esposito is the guy we want, and we need more cash, I wonder if SC will match or even exceed what we can offer just to keep him? Honestly, If all this is true, got to wonder whats the hurry? I assume there are some potential coaches out there who would do a great job, why not make sure before we pull the trigger on Esposito that we have exhausted the hiring process before we pull the trigger on him?

I don't understand all the hype around Esposito. Recruiting has gone in the tank in at USC since he took over and, from what I hear, fans in Columbia are hoping he will get the axe here shortly. Which makes me think, does he really want the job? Or is he asking for more money just to buy some time to see how his USC situation works out? I want to bring someone in who wants to be at here, not someone who gets fired and takes the job because it's convenient. We would be a stepping stone for Esposito. With his connections, it would take 2 or 3 mediocre years for him to move on. I think we need to hire a D2 coach that is a proven winner, that is ready to make the jump to D1. Someone that will be committed to sticking around for a while and turning the program around.

USC may very well pay more to keep Esposito. They can sure afford it. Esposito has very young son and daughter and wants to be somewhere he can raise them in a good environment and wants to be somewhere for quite a while. I don't think he is looking for a stepping stone. He is getting positive recommendations about Boone, the App family and fans. His recruiting may not be as bad as it seems, as the previous recruiting coordinator was off the charts. He is reported to be a really nice guy and his being the recruiting coordinator for USC is a plus. His 2015 recruiting class was ranked by some as 2nd in the nation! He comes from good stock; his dad coached Ray Tanner, who also coached for his dad for several years. I think App would do well with him.

Anybody heard anything else regarding Esposito or any other names that may be in the mix? The Proposed Date of Hire on the job posting is 7/18/16 so I figure interviews and speculations will start heating up here shortly.
