Re: Hiring of new head baseball coach near?
Here's to hoping that we bring in someone that is a proven winner as a head coach - no matter what division he comes from. Gary Gilmore at CCU came from DII, Mike Fox at UNC came from DIII.
I haven't heard any names still, other than the 4 that WSJ Guy (RIP) released a couple weeks ago. Amazed at how quiet this interview process has been.

Sometimes names that are released can be a bit of a smoke screen to give fans something to chew on while we wait.

Yeah I don't pay much attention to any of those names. None in the final 3.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

I understand that. Still very surprised at how quiet the interview process has been. I downloaded twitter just to follow Kendall Rogers and the only thing he's mentioned about it is that he heard Sammy Esposito's name was gaining traction. Other schools have been much more transparent with the public. Sammy is not the guy but it's been eerily quiet.

I'll agree that the general public hasn't had much to go on, but perhaps that is by design.SlappyAppy72 wrote:bigCasu wrote:Sometimes names that are released can be a bit of a smoke screen to give fans something to chew on while we wait.

Wasn't on MMB then but did some of you refer to Tommy Bowman as "WSJ guy" as well or are we only doing that with Brant? Don't mean to hijack the thread just need some clarity.

I like Esmay, unless he gets confused about who the real ASU is.

Two of those don't match the names I've heard. Wonder which source is right?

Esmay took a national championship caliber team at ASU and lost more games each year until resigning after a season barely over .500. Sounds like he got run off even though he played at ASU so I'm concerned we would hire someone with that record. ASU also served a one year post season ban while he was there. Not sure if it was his fault though. He under .500 as head coach at Utah before leaving to be an assistant at ASU.BUTCH1991 wrote:I like Esmay, unless he gets confused about who the real ASU is.

Good to know, but his record is still the major concern for me. Just looked back at his record. He was below .500 at Utah and his ASU teams won in order 52, 43, 36, 37, 33 games in 5 years.bigCasu wrote:Esmay was not at fault for the Ariz St postseason ban

Re: Hiring of new head baseball coach near?
Sorry 10. My post isn't going to make you too happy. Perno hasn't coached baseball since he was let go from UGA in May of 2013. He's currently the football coach at his alma mater Clark Central High School. I would hope that of the 100 or so rumored to have applied for the job that we could find a more recent BASEBALL coach. I know he had a good run a Georgia but he was let go and hasn't taken another baseball job. Doesn't sound too good. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I am not advocating for him. Definitely not in the corner of a coach who wins fewer games every year.JTApps1 wrote:Good to know, but his record is still the major concern for me. Thanks Moose. Didn't know he was now coaching HS football and didn't know he couldn't get another job after UGA. I'm in agreement with you.
