Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
Been a very long time since I watched a game in Varsity but I seem to recall some bleachers that were moved behind the goals during a game.

Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
Sorry to rain on the Varsity Gym parade, but the actual seating capacity was 5,500 based upon the old NCAA bleacher seating spec of 18 inches per. We had some SRO games with teams like ETSU, UNCC, Marshall, Nebraska, Davidson, Furman, WCU and a few others. I'll throw ECU and Lenoir-Rhyne into the mix. Those were hot tickets back in the day. You could always expect fists to fly.
Per former AD Jim Garner, it's highly unlikely that we ever had 8,000 in for a game. A 7,000 number with "Mister"Jennings and the ETSU Bucs in the house would have been more accurate for our best attended games.

I was in the pep band for three years. We sat on the baseline.

It was completely packed when John Fitch hit those two jumpers from really near mid court to help beat Davidson. I know as I was there and hit a free throw at half time to win a fifty dollar Belk's gift certificate. Fifty bucks was a ton of money for one on a teacher's salary back then.asu66 wrote:Sorry to rain on the Varsity Gym parade, but the actual seating capacity was 5,500 based upon the old NCAA bleacher seating spec of 18 inches per. BTW, how many 5,500 attendance games have we had in Holmes besides the UNC game?asu66 wrote:Sorry to rain on the Varsity Gym parade, but the actual seating capacity was 5,500 based upon the old NCAA bleacher seating spec of 18 inches per. Davidson games always drew well at VG and at HCC. We already miss that rivalry. Fox will probably want to re-engage the DC Cats when he weans his program off of oxygen and back to good health.

I can recall 2 others. 07 on senior night vs. UNCG. (DJ Thompson's senior year) And a sellout vs. Davidson with Steph Curry. And yes Dman, this thread has long jumped the tracks.NewApp wrote:BTW, how many 5,500 attendance games have we had in Holmes besides the UNC game?asu66 wrote:Sorry to rain on the Varsity Gym parade, but the actual seating capacity was 5,500 based upon the old NCAA bleacher seating spec of 18 inches per. Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
The Martin twins from NC State (Caleb and Cody) are transferring. Does anyone think their is a chance for us? They're from just over an hour away (Mocksville, NC) and I can't imagine any big time programs would go after them.

Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
Man that would be a great get...and would make sense of the two players (goesling and kobani) leaving...but I'd say if they transferred, uncw maybe? Certainly not another acc school...this would be fun to see at app though...any news is good news and would keep players from transferring out

Why not? One of them averaged something like 11 and 6 IIRC, and the other played significant minutes too. I'd imagine they wind up and another high-major or a high-end mid-major.RollNeers wrote:The Martin twins from NC State (Caleb and Cody) are transferring. Does anyone think their is a chance for us? Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
They were marginal players on a team that didn't make the tourney. They are not great shooters and just not major college basketball material. Mid-major is best suited for them and they would excel there.EastHallApp wrote:Why not? One of them averaged something like 11 and 6 IIRC, and the other played significant minutes too. Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
The Martin twins are always looking for greener pastures. In high school, they transferred from one school to another their senior year on their perception that team might have a better record. It didn’t work out for them. Now they want to transfer from NC State and Gottfried states he doesn’t understand why. In high school one was a decent player and the other so, so. I don’t think that has changed. Personally, I don’t think they would add to our team chemistry. I think we should let some other school deal with them.

Re: Kobani and Goesling Granted Release
If you're not a great shooter; then you really don't fit Fox's system. We're starting to get backed up with borderline-shooters that Fox has rolled the dice on and is getting marginal, at best, returns from...like O'Boyle (who has yet to produce any points and shoots terrible percentages); Babic (who is Fox's best passer, one of his best ball-handlers and a coach-when-on-the-floor, but shooting, not-so-much); and Goesling (who already has his bags packed). Then there are the three freshmen--two of whom may have been finding their shot at season's end (quite a lot too late); and Johnson who could have used a redshirt year to develop (but Fox needed him on the floor).
The Martin's are "tweenies" too big/immobile to play ACC guard and too small to play ACC forward. They might be ideal for wings--if they could shoot for percentage (which is why they have their bags packed). They haven't shown that they can.
If we could take the better of the two w/o the other, that might be a deal. They've made it clear that they travel as a package. No deal!
