Re: App @ UNCC
I could not find the game anywhere on the internet so I did not get a chance to watch. But, looking at the box score there is no reason for Pat Good to be playing only 9 minutes (unless he got hurt, as I said I couldn't watch.) He might be our best guard and needs to play a lot.

Re: App @ UNCC
If our football team was 2-43 in Play off/bowl appearances we would consider dropping the program. WCU and App have exactly the same number of NCAA trips in the last 25 years. UNCA has gone more in the last 5 years than we ever have. Fancher never coached it to NOT ONE SoCon final. Not one.
It can be done. I just don't think I'll see it at App in my lifetime as sad as that makes me.

Re: App @ UNCC
Keep in mind Fox's first two teams looked their worst early in the season before improving in conference play. Sorry we didn't win tonight, but still far too early to pass judgment on this season.

Once again. Our campus is not in Concord. It's in Charlotte. Please refer to some of my previous posts for further detail if needed. I don't have the patience to go through that again. There are many maps available for free online and at the local library if needed.Gonzo wrote:We will! You sure are putting a lot of hope on that one football game coming up in 2018!
You better hope you win that game. That's going to sting really bad if you go further down in "games that matter" vs UNCC. Remember App is down 9 wins to UNCC in men's hoops head to head. If App loses that game it could take 6 years of all wins for them to even break even with UNCC.
That's going to be a bad bad day for App if they lay an egg in Charlotte in 2018.
It's kind of a no lose situation for UNCC. No one expects them to win.
But if you lose..... Wow. That's going to hurt.
Enjoy thinking about it while you reflect on the loss App was just handed!
It's a great opportunity for personal growth.
See you next year around this time. We may need to right the ship again, but we know where to get that W in picturesque Boone, NC.

...Errrrrrr.....RANT WARNING!!!!
It pisses me off to no end to see all of these backseat drivers bashing on one of our teams. But not because of their perceived expertise in the sport, it's the fact that you're bashing one of our teams and you haven't been to a game in years! If you care so much, show up!
I went to the Duke game this past weekend, and what I thought about most was the fact that Cameron is a great place to watch a game.
Not because it's brand new,
...not because it's seats are super comfortable,
...not because the viewing angles are excellent.
Nope!!
Because the place is packed with excited, engaged fans!
They put more fans in the lower section for a single game than we put into the HCC in a month!
You want our team to be better?? GET OFF YOUR KEYBOARD and go to the Saturday home games this season!
Wear your black and gold!
Yell like it's third down!
... And you'll be amazed at how much better the team does!
RANT over.
And before you get your nose out of joint that I'm talking to you, relax. I know this is a message board, and I know we all share a desire for App to do great, but there aren't more than 10 people who can claim to have been to more than half of our home basketball games over the past 3 seasons. Our criticism of the team rings hollow when we're not even willing to show up for 2-3 Saturday games a season. No excuses, just look in the mirror, be honest, grab a friend and drive up the mountain for the afternoon. You'll enjoy it and so will the team!
Let's GO APP!

DG told me they were looking for ways to promote sports other than football. Anyone notice anything different with the promotion of basketball?
We have to fix the parking problems before we can fill HCC for basketball on weeknights with other than students. When I went to the Elon game on a Saturday afternoon when Houston Fancher was leading the team, I had to park at the Presbyterian Church lot and that was a Saturday afternoon game. One can only imagine where to park on a weeknight without getting ticketed.

Re: App @ UNCC
I hate one side losing and people going "well, we'll show them in another sport". One has nothing to do with the other. I hate it when App fans do it, I hate it when other schools' fans do it. Don't do that.
It's frustrating to be so close to breaking through and falling short in basketball, both genders.

Re: App @ UNCC
As far as the post about being there, I am. Season tickets section 212, row L seats 1-4. I live 1.5 hours away and have only missed 2 games since Fox got there. One for the bowl game and the second for ULL when freezing rain kept me away.
I think that it shows a lot of improvement that last last year when we played UNCC they had about a 15-18 point lead the entire game. Had very little struggles with us. Fast forward one year latter and they were sweating their balls off the last 5 minutes ON THEIR OWN COURT. If we had not missed several wide open shots we may have won the game. Price has gotten better recruits(according to the star system for recruits) but they have done little with them. On the other hand, Fox ended the game with 3 freshman, one sophomore and one junior on the floor. I too am tired of losing but it is important to remember where we came from. I was at the last App/Western BBall game at Western. Capel was still the coach and it was terrible. We have come a long way since then. We may have lucked into Fox as he was not one of our first 3 choices but I think he will win. When you are in a ditch as deep as we were it takes a long time to dig out. Price at UNCC was the flashy hire and he may turn out to be a good coach but so far I do not see that he has improved this team with better recruits. Our score shows that. I will continue to be at the games and welcome any thoughtful conversation with any of you but as mad or down as you feel just remember where we were only a few short years ago.

Charfan,
Nice narrative, trying to convince yourself you can't lose in 2018. You are obviously preparing yourself for the inevitable beat down. You will think differently when you see your crackerbox and entire town painted black and gold, and the QC recruits chasing our bus back up the mountain.

Re: App @ UNCC
I don't follow APP basketball closely, however being a 1 bid conference, then all that ultimately matters is how well a team is playing at the end of the season --- these games are clearly "pre-season" and certainly you want some wins to build confidence but improving, how ever slightly, is the goal - When the conference season is in full swing and you guys are not seeing an improvement then you can start feeling concern

UNCC should be ashamed it won by such a small amount to a program with only two recruiting classes removed from being a bottom 10 D1 team. Give Fox time to develop his young talent folks. Three years from now we're going to be asking ourselves if we can keep coach Fox.
