18-19 bball prognostication

I know we're all gearing up for football season, but I'm a basketball guy first, and am still excited about our team's future success. I've imagined possible lineup scenarios, but was curious what others' thoughts are, based on who we have this year and what you've seen/heard from summer workouts and how the transfers have performed in practice.

We are obviously guard heavy, and have already landed two guard commits for next year. I would think that Bibby would be hard to keep off of the floor based on his pedigree, but I have no idea how he fits into our system. If he were in the starting lineup, along with Shabazz and Forrest, maybe T. Johnson moves back to the 4 and Ike Johnson to the 5, or one of them doesn't start and Seacat or Gylfason starts in the post. If T. Johnson stays on the wing like last year, we have have quite a few guards starting on the bench (Forrest or Bibby, Battle, O. Williams, Delph). I know it's super early and things could look completely different in a few months. I'm just curious what others think or have observed.

I do expect to be better than last year but I don’t know if I see 20+ wins.

Was offered an opportunity to catch a practice last week. Many of your concerns about a lineup are also with the coaching staff. Right now, they are just feeling out the pieces as far as lineup combinations. We are deeper than we have ever been under Fox. A few guys like Delph, Breki, and Battle are going to be hard to keep off the court. I'd guess the bigger questions are 1) Who plays the post, (Breki, Ike, Seacat) and 2) how many guards do we start (three or four).

I don't think this team will play with a traditional PG or Post. Modern basketball seems to dislike specialist like this. They are deep enough at guard/wing to spread the floor, keep the ball moving and take advantage of each players skills. There has not been a team like this in Fox's tenure. I loved Griff and his energy, but because he was a traditional post his defender was always in the lane. This team will open the middle and allow Shabazz and Battle, and Oshawn to slash the middle and this will open jump shooters. My biggest concern is their defensive commitment. At times last year they didn't guard their own shadows. That said, I think there is enough depth to reward those players committed to defense and produce an effective team.

My prediction - We win more than last year, how much more is going to be consistently frustrating due to the lack of consistency.

Your personal attack indicates a high level of sensitivity on this subject .Given the performance , and record , of the men's basketball team over the past several years that's easily understood. Regardless, you are welcome to voice your opinion on any subject you like. As am I .No one is making you read it.

Shabazz' future is at the point. That's not changing. Bibby can shoot, and if he can shoot well during the games, he'll create playing time for himself. I wouldn't call him a game changer at this point.

Positionless basketball will be delightful to watch in Boone this year. Push the ball, spread the floor, drive and kick, drain the open 3. This will definitely be the deepest and most talented team of the Fox era.
