Time for Change with App State Basketball
Time for a major program overhaul....sick and tired of watching games like this one today. There are no plays, no rebounds, and a fan base that doesn't care.
The team does around-the-world at the three point line, same as a middle school team. Shabazz is good, but he hogs the ball and everyone else stands there and wastes time instead of making plays themselves.
When the team shoots, they just turn around and run back to defend before the ball even hits the rim....which is why our rebound stats are atrocious.
At home gaves, we have an average attendance of just over 1000....piss poor if you ask me. Students don't show up, but their section still looks way more full than anywhere else in the arena. Hard for our players to get excited and play well when they know nobody cares enough to watch them play.
Everyone on this site screams JOIN THE YOSEF CLUB! but it doesn't matter if the only thing you do is get wasted for football games and leave at halftime. I get that the SunBelt is a transition conference for us, but we can never move forward if we completely ignore our basketball team.
In short, the program needs more attention from the University and ALUMNI, and it may be time to consider that Jim Fox may not be the answer we thought he was.

"Shabazz hogs the ball..." Glad I'm not the only one here that knows that. He also never moves inside the 3 point line without the ball but I've seen middle school teams that run a better offense than Fox does.

He’s the only one who can hit a damn shot. He needs to touch it more IMO.swva appfan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 8:44 pm"Shabazz hogs the ball..." Glad I'm not the only one here that knows that. But I agree, we don’t have athletes to just play ball. We need to run sets and have offensive goals in mind.

I’d at least like to see this team get halfway through conference play without totally losing it. I don’t think Shabazz is the problem by any stretch. Our rebounding needs work. Why is Isaac Johnson the only person consistently pulling down boards? I can respect not sitting SeaCat when he’s worked his way up but he’s not cutting it.
SeaCat is bottom 20% percentile in efficiency (our worst player with enough minutes to be statistically calculated).
Change something at least. This lineup isn’t cutting it. we have very talented players. Teams tinker with lineups all the time, why are we so recitent to adjust ours.
Start Gylfason for a couple games, guarantee he pulls down more then two boards...

We are not well coached. The talent is there, the fundamentals and discipline are not .Painful to watch.

There's no joy on the court. If I want to see a Long Islander yell at people for two hours, I'll go to a bar in Florida.

I don’t see the money to buy him out given we are trying to hire a football staff.

Honestly now that we have a solid football coach for a few years DG needs to focus on bball. If we have any of hope of ever going P5 Or AAC we need to step up the abysmal basketball. Somehow have to get the fans engaged

I was under the impression that he is in the final year of his contract - in which case there would not be a buyout. Maybe I was wrong.

I really doubt that half of the people who make and/or post in these threads go to more than one or two games a year.
It's good that you care enough to mash your keyboards with the same complaints week after week but a lot of you need to actually show up.

This isn’t going to sound real because all of us are sports fanatics, but I think at least half of our students and alumni don’t know we have a D-1 basketball team.

I'm withholding my thoughts until we get through some conference play. We have more horses than we have in the last several years, but other Sun Belt teams will have horses as well.

Let me be clear ,I have supported the program for decades with my presence, my voice and thousands upon thousands of hard earned dollars. The reason you hear the same complaints "week after week" ? Are you kidding me? Perhaps we aren't watching the same games.
